My wife and I decided to take a short trip to Martha's Vineyard less than a month before we were supposed to leave. I did some quick research and sent e-mails to a number of inns. Almost none of them responded or had vacancies, but Lambert's Cove did. I tend to do extensive research for such trips, but figured I needed to seize upon the opportunity, so I booked a room.

We were not disappointed.

The inn is about 20 minutes from the airport, and has ample parking (we rented a car, after talking with someone from the inn, and it was great advice). We were greeted by name upon our arrival by a friendly and helpful attendant. Check in was a breeze and we were taken to our room (Saybrook), which was charming and clean. The room includes a small TV/DVD player, and the inn has a pretty nice collection of DVDs that guests can make use of free of charge. The shower also offered ample heat and pressure.

The inn and grounds are very nice, complete with a large pool and whirlpool, sitting areas, and a pretty flower garden (I think there's a tennis court too.) The inn also provides each room with a guest pass to a private beach only a short drive away. The beach was super. The sand was pristine and soft, and the water was clean. And, it wasn't very crowded, which was a big plus. The inn provides beach towels, chairs and umbrellas if you'd like.

Breakfast is included, and it didn't disappoint. Apparently (at least according to Cape Cod Magazine, among others), the restaurant is among the island's very best. This isn't the typical B&B breakfast of granola and yogurt. I had the fruit cup and french toast two of my three days, and they were excellent. Juice and coffee/tea were also included. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant one evening, and thought it was pricey, but very good. The ambiance was quite nice, complete with live piano playing.

Perhaps most importantly, the service at Lambert's Cove is great. The owners/staff are accessible, friendly, patient and knowledgable. We really had no idea what to do on the island, but ended up with a lot to do and see after talking with the folks behind the desk on a regular basis.

Overall, we really liked the Lambert's Cove Inn. Sure, we would have liked a bathtub and bigger TV in the room, and newer beach chairs, but the combination of the facilities, food and friendliness were super. The private beach was also delightful, but note that isn't on the grounds proper.

Perhaps most significantly, we thought the inn offered great value for the price. West Tisbury isn't necessarily in the thick of things, but it's actually centrally located to a lot of the fun things to do on the island.

    • Disliked — The room was a little small, and lack some luxuries. The private beach was actually a 3 minute drive away.

Lambert's Cove Inn was one of three high-end properties that we stayed in during a recent two-week visit to Martha's Vineyard. The property is beautiful. It's situated in a pine wood about 1/2 mile off the main road. One of the loveliest features is the pool area. The Inn has a small outdoor mineral water swimming pool, and a hot tub. Although my wife and I didn't go in the pool we spent some time reading in the lounge chairs beside the pool -- very relaxing.

Inn guests also have access to the beach at Lambert's Cove, which is a nice stretch (about 1 mile, I'd say) of very fine sand. The beach is on the sheltered side of the island, no surf.

Our room, at $250/night (including an excellent breakfast) was one of the lower priced rooms at the Inn. The room itself was nothing special -- rather cramped and basic, although it did have an attached screened porch which was a nice feature.

The Inn has the advantage of being convenient to the town of Vineyard Haven, but at the same time being isolated from the crowds of summer tourists

We had a few problems on checking in. Something was wrong with the plumbing in our room, and so the room smelled like sewage. The air conditioner malfunctioned. The innkeepers (Scott and Kell) responded quickly and professionally. The smelled issue was resolved, but the air conditioner broke down again.

The one thing that I would say was missing was an important intangible -- the warmth and welcoming feeling that we felt so strongly at another property on the Vineyard -- the Outermost Inn, which I have reviewed separately.

Lambert's Cove Inn & Restaurant

We decided to celebrate our anniversary in Martha’s Vineyard. After doing research online, it was apparent that Lambert’s Cove Inn was highly recommended as a romantic getaway. We booked two nights and could not have been happier.

Upon arrival, we were immediately impressed by the beautiful and stylish decor of the foyer and two sitting rooms. We were warmly greeted by one of the owner/innkeepers, Kell, and promptly escorted to our beautiful room (Chesapeake). Since Vineyard Haven is a dry town, we brought some wine and they were more than happy to store the bottles in the refrigerator.

Private Beach was a short walk and Lambert’s Cove provided us with beach passes, towels, beach chairs and an umbrella. It is said that it is one of the nicest beaches on the island. Living along the coast and having been to many different beaches, we preferred the tranquil spa-like oasis pool located at the Inn. We rested comfortably and quietly on the padded teak lounge chairs with the sound of the waterfall and soothing music in the background. The hot tub was also a very nice touch.

We are very picky eaters and do a lot of dining out and cooking. Lambert’s Cove Inn Restaurant is easily one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. The décor and ambiance was romantic and intimate. As for the food, it was first rate. Everything was prepared exceptionally well with beautiful presentation. We were extremely pleased with dinner and enjoyed the wine we had brought since the restaurant is BYOB.

Breakfast was included with our room and was prepared made to order. There were many delicious choices which included fresh fruit, pastry and cereal. Choices included French toast, and many variations of eggs along with assorted toast and hash browns. Guests have a choice of sitting in the dining room or outside by the pool (weather permitting).

Lastly, the innkeepers, Kell and Scott were very accommodating and warm. We enjoyed their conversation and had many laughs.

All in all, we are so happy that we chose to spend a very special anniversary at Lambert’s Cove Inn. We are planning our next trip very soon!

We just returned from a five day stay and couldn't have been more pleased that we chose to stay at the Lambert's Cove Inn. We'd never been to Martha's Vineyard before so we took the advice of many of the posters on this site and called the inn to book a room. From the first time that I called the Inn, both Scott and Kell made me feel as if I was an old friend calling to visit. They helped me pick a great room and made reservations for my wife and I at the Inn's restaurant for a night of our stay (don't miss the restaurant - see below).

Once we arrived at the Inn, we were immediately at home. Scott and Kell were both at the front desk when we arrived and they welcomed us warmly, showed us the property and our room and then recommended places for us to get dinner that night. Every day, they were more than happy to lend their knowledge of the island to two neophytes who didn't want to miss anything in their first trip. If you stay at the Inn, you'll see Scott and Kell quite often and they will always say hello and smile -- it is a small gesture, but it really makes the inn feel like a home away from home. Unsurprisingly, Scott and Kell's hospitality is mirrored by every other member of the Inn's staff, from the wonderful people who serve you breakfast each morning (the french toast with strawberrys is amazing) to the people that clean your room and maintain the grounds.

Besides the wonderful accomdations and hosts, there are two other things the Inn has that make it stand out. First is the restaurant, which was our favorite on the island. Wonderful food in a very quiet and intimate setting, plus you can walk home after dinner instead of driving! Second, staying at the inn gives you access to Lambert's Cove, a beach that limits access to residents of the immediate area (translation: few tourists and no huge crowds). We went to a couple of the other public beaches on the island during our stay, and always ended up back at the cove, it is a great beach and much quieter than the others.

Sorry for the long post, but I couldn't think of a way to briefly say all of the great things about Lambert's Cove Inn.

Looking for a romantic getaway for my boyfriend and I and found it in this charming and delightful inn far away from tourist traps and hub bub. Access to a private beach and an amazing mineral pool and hot tub. Owners Kell & Scott were exemplary and the quality of customer service I received rivaled any luxury hotel I have stayed in. I am very particular about both service and convenience-Kell & Scott have thought of everything to make this a perfect stay, including complimentary scotch and port in the front blue drawing room after dinner! The rooms had every modern amentity but did not lack for private, old world sophistication. Absolutely loved it and will definitely go back soon!
