My wife and I decided to take a short trip to Martha's Vineyard less than a month before we were supposed to leave. I did some quick research and sent e-mails to a number of inns. Almost none of them responded or had vacancies, but Lambert's Cove did. I tend to do extensive research for such trips, but figured I needed to seize upon the opportunity, so I booked a room.
We were not disappointed.
The inn is about 20 minutes from the airport, and has ample parking (we rented a car, after talking with someone from the inn, and it was great advice). We were greeted by name upon our arrival by a friendly and helpful attendant. Check in was a breeze and we were taken to our room (Saybrook), which was charming and clean. The room includes a small TV/DVD player, and the inn has a pretty nice collection of DVDs that guests can make use of free of charge. The shower also offered ample heat and pressure.
The inn and grounds are very nice, complete with a large pool and whirlpool, sitting areas, and a pretty flower garden (I think there's a tennis court too.) The inn also provides each room with a guest pass to a private beach only a short drive away. The beach was super. The sand was pristine and soft, and the water was clean. And, it wasn't very crowded, which was a big plus. The inn provides beach towels, chairs and umbrellas if you'd like.
Breakfast is included, and it didn't disappoint. Apparently (at least according to Cape Cod Magazine, among others), the restaurant is among the island's very best. This isn't the typical B&B breakfast of granola and yogurt. I had the fruit cup and french toast two of my three days, and they were excellent. Juice and coffee/tea were also included. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant one evening, and thought it was pricey, but very good. The ambiance was quite nice, complete with live piano playing.
Perhaps most importantly, the service at Lambert's Cove is great. The owners/staff are accessible, friendly, patient and knowledgable. We really had no idea what to do on the island, but ended up with a lot to do and see after talking with the folks behind the desk on a regular basis.
Overall, we really liked the Lambert's Cove Inn. Sure, we would have liked a bathtub and bigger TV in the room, and newer beach chairs, but the combination of the facilities, food and friendliness were super. The private beach was also delightful, but note that isn't on the grounds proper.
Perhaps most significantly, we thought the inn offered great value for the price. West Tisbury isn't necessarily in the thick of things, but it's actually centrally located to a lot of the fun things to do on the island.
