The Publick House is an excellent hotel. The historic interior is both charming and cozy. The food was excellent and breakfast was superb value for money. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable - didn't like the hunting scene wallpaper however! For a step back in time choose this hotel - it is worth the experience.

It is one thing visiting a museum, quite another staying in one! Particularly when the 1950’s vintage central air conditioning cut in the second night of our stay and we had to use all the blankets we could find to stay warm – with outside temperatures in the 70s! Lumpy mattress and pillows did not help either. Breakfasts were good but crockery seemed sticky and not particularly clean.

We just enjoyed a lovely brunch at the Publick House. Reasonably priced at $ 13.95 per person $ 7.95 for children, the buffet offered a wide variety of choices including an interesting take on Eggs Benedict done with a lobster sauce. The Apple Pie with cheddar cheese and Indian Pudding (both delicious New England favorites) were a nice change from standard breakfast fare. The grounds are beautiful, and the building is fascinating. Our server was superb, and very accommodating. The only flaw was one member of the staff replenishing the buffet. When we asked when more apple pie was coming out she snapped "when its cooked!". We will definitely make this interesting place a regular stop when we head to central Massaxhusetts.

Although it's been a couple of years since staying at the Publick House, the details are clear in my mind. It was raining buckets after our visit to Old Sturbridge Village. We were wingin' it and hadn't made reservations anywhere. We got one of the last rooms.. and it was love at first sight. The decor was charming, the floors appropriately squeaky, the furniture comfortable, and the ambiance whisked us away to another time. Our breakfast the next morning was equally impressive (*love* those sticky buns!) and my questions about the history of the inn were answered warmly. The only problem we had was lack of ability to hook up to the internet. I'd stay there again anytime. It was terrific!

I am disappointed by the previous review. I can't imagine where they stayed. The Publik House is a fabulous place with both motel and Inn rooms available. The restaurant is wonderful and the staff have always bent over backwards to offer first class service. The on site bakery offers all sorts of delights and the grounds are beautiful. I return here as often as I can.

Had stay at the Publick House in the past and been satisfied. This trip the room left much to be desired.
1. No clicker for the TV 2. No ice bucket (desk called back to see if we were sure it wasn't there........ it wasn't) They never brought one.
3. Using plastic bag, nearest (only) ice machine two buildings down....(had to drive in the car) 4. Toilet ran all night.
5. Splash board on vanity unattached.... fell off when brushed against.
6. Toothpast all over the wallpaper in the bathroom 7. Baseboard on heating unit falling off into the room 8. Upholstered chair... badly stained with blood 9. Bathroom ceiling fan sounded like a 747 out of Logan Airport 10. Toilet seat very loose... almost went on my whatsie in the middle of the night.

When told about these problems, the manager gave us lip service and offered a coupon for the dining room, but never adjusted the room rate.
We won't be going there again very soon. There are many other places to stay in Sturbridge.
