We went to the "Christmas By Candlelight" tour at Old Sturbridge Village to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We chose to stay at the Old Sturbridge Inn & Reeder Family Lodges because of the location and price.
Not knowing what to expect, check in was easy and they had complimentary cookies. We were pleasantly surprised with our room in the blue lodge. In addition to the nice room size, the room decor was cozy and inviting, no clutter and very clean! The bed was really comfortable and the room temperature was nice. They had a hair drier, soap, shampoo, and nice fluffy white towels. The bathroom has its own heater and a night light option. There is a safe, extra blanket, TV and radio.
We spent the afternoon visiting the local businesses on Main Street before going to dinner. We had planned on eating at the Oliver Wight Tavern at the village entry, but they were booked, so we went inside and enjoyed dinner at the Bullard Tavern Cafeteria. They offered a nice variety of items: pizza, sandwiches, salads, pot roast, rustic vegetables; potatoes, corn bread, beans, chicken tenders, milk, juice, soda, beer, pudding, animal crackers, cookies and brownies to name a few.
I can't say enough about the tour! There were surprises at each stop, cider, gingerbread and fruit cake to name a few. It is something everyone should do at least once in their lifetime.
After the village, we went back to the office and had coffee and cocoa in their sitting room and talked with our friends for a while before retiring to our rooms for the night. We stopped by the vending machine to get sodas and water on our walk back.
The next morning, we went to the continental breakfast which had something for everyone, cereal, muffins, danish, toast, coffee, hot cocoa, tea, orange and cranberry juice.
Check out was quick and easy, everyone we came in contact with during our visit was very nice and helpful. I will only stay here from now on when we are in the area.
