Kahula has been in Sturbridge for a very long time, maybe since the late seventies. The place was pretty fancy in its day with a fountain in the entry and coffered ceiling in the first dining room, but today it smacks of the seventies in terms of decor and menu choices. There is a separate bar and another large dining room with plenty of light from windows on two sides.
The menu is interesting and has plenty of faux Polynesian entrees with names like 'Sizzling Volcano' or 'Mauna Loa Shrimp' and a bevy of Trader Vics type drinks with umbrellas and fruit hanging from them. That being said, the food is ok and I have no real complaints. I sometimes stop here for lunch for one of their combination specials. I also come in with friends for 'Gai Poo Lo Mein' another specialty dish with fried white chicken tenders, ham, pineapple, and a brown sauce over Lo Mein. It's pretty good even though it's way off the diet.
As long as you don't expect authentic Chinatown food, you will be fine with this restaurant.
