“Best sushi I ever had”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2009

Kyotoya Japanese Restaurant, hiding in the Montvale plaza, is my most favorite place to go for sushi. Their sushi is always fresh, tasty and artful. I am a very picky person, but I have to say that I never had any bad experience in Kyotoya. I have to admit that I am addicted to their yummy food since I found this place a year ago. Their waiting staff is very friendly, and they are doing their best to make sure people leaving happy. Surprisingly, their food price is dirty-cheap comparing to similar restaurant in Boston or Brookline. It's a good place for family diner out or friends get-together. I ordered a large sushi plate when we had a small BBQ party at home last weekend, people were screaming for it. I had to repeatly tell them where the retaurant is. This is the best sushi I ever had.

“The best sushi made by a family friendly staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2009

The staff is wonderful. (Bing, Chris, Ken, and Simon will all welcome you.) They cater to my very finicky 6 year old son. After a number of visits and testing out finding food he was willing to eat they even created a special sushi just for him made with only the ingredients he enjoys and wants to eat. The restaurant has become a top choice for every family member whenever we go out. They want you to enjoy your food. The food is always fresh and prepared in an appealing way. My daughter loves the wonderful artful designs Chris the sushi chef creates. The wonderful specials are delicious especially the Toro sushi.

“Hidden gem in Stoneham, MA”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2009

My boyfriend and I are frequent visitors to this small sushi restaurant in Stoneham, MA. The menu offers a wide variety of options and even contains a small choice of chinese meals as well as sushi and japanese. The food is always very fresh and well prepared and the value is unbelievable compared to sushi restaurants in downtown Boston. The staff is very accommodating and friendly and there has never been a wait. Definitely a hidden gem in Stoneham!

“An unexpectedly good destination”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2008

It is hard to believe that you can pack such a great dining experience in to what looks like a tiny little place. Kyotoya is wedged in between a Tux shop and a laundry place. It is actually very easy to get to, as it is right on Montvale Ave, a few short locks from the highway, and in a plaza with plenty of parking. I was so impressed with 3 key things. 1) Freshness- I have been back a couple of times already and each time the food has been so fresh, and that comes through in the taste. it goes without saying that sushi has to be fresh, but everything seems to be made of very high quality, very fresh ingredients. 2) Price, it is hard to believe that a place where the waitstaff is so friendly, and the food is so good, can be so reasonably priced. They have lunch and dinner box specials that havea lot of great food for very reasonable prices. i think the Lunch box is $7 or 8 and the dinner box $13, and it comes with Soup, salad, and a choice of 4 different options, including sushi. 3) Atmosphere- The folks there seem genuinely interesting in making sure you go away happy. The place has some authentic Japanese art, but its not tacky or over stated. the music is quiet and pleasant. you can bring in your own wine or beer, and they will open the bottle, bring you glasses, and pour it if you want. there is a four seat sushi bar where you can sit and watch the sushi chefs make their wonderful creations. They have tables for 2 , 4 and 6, and the place is significantly larger on the inside than it seems from the outside. There seems to be a very loyal local following, as it appears that the wait staff knows many of their customers by name, and patrons are interacting with the staff.
My last visit there I brought an important out of town client, and he left very impressed, and he was a self-proclaimed "sushi snob" He had a couple of the chef's specials, and left the place very pleased. He left commenting that he hoped we could return to Kyotoya the next time he came into town.
