“Relaxing and Beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Let me start by saying that we were there off season. I don't know if there might be different experiences in season. First thing that strikes you as you go from the office to your room is the beautiful landscaping. The courtyard around the pool is quiet and idyllic. The rooms are basic but very clean. The bed was very comfortable. At first we were uncomfortable keeping the sliding door open at night so we ran the air conditioning so it wouldn't get stuffy. By the end of the trip we kept the door open and slept soundly. The restaurant was closed for dinner so we only had breakfast there. The food was pretty standard fare for a resort. The service was efficient and friendly. In fact, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a nice conversation with one of the gardeners about the flowers. He stopped what he was doing and answered our questions and then engaged us in conversation. They provide chairs on the beach and the indoor pool was very clean. The private beach is clean and quiet. Too cold for us to brave the outdoor pool though it looked great. It's a great location to base day trips up and down the cape. While we were there they had two weddings and somehow managed to pull them off without any inconvenience to the other guests. Make no mistake, this is a beach resort and not a 5 star hotel in Manhattan, but it is head and shoulders over any beach resort I have ever been at. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: We had an ocean view, room 139. Ocean view is definitely worth the extra money. The choice between...

My girlfriend and I bought a LivingSocial deal for this resort to celebrate our anniversary. It most definitely didn't live up to our expectations. In fact, I was very surprised at how very mediocre the whole place is. I'm no world traveler, but this felt like a large, glorified motel.

The staff (with the exception of the lovely women at the spa) seemed bored at best, and practically miserable. They did not greet us warmly upon arrival, and were very slow and disengaged at meals. The food was reminiscent of a school cafeteria. Our room was nothing special, and had a distinct musty smell that never went away. Our "ocean-view" room actually opened right onto the pool, so we had to keep our shades closed all weekend to avoid feeling like we were on display for dozens of shouting children. I can't imagine what we spent all of that money for. Not one thing about the resort was exceptional.

The location (right on the ocean) is lovely, but it didn't make up for the lackluster accommodations and staff. I certainly wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone. It might be decent enough for a family, but it's the wrong place to go if you're hoping for a romantic weekend.

Our goal in participating in discount programs like Living Social is to expose a variety of potential guests to Cape Cod and the value of Red Jacket Beach. We agree that anticipations play an important role in determining satisfaction when it comes to enjoying a promotional getaway. As always we are available to listen to our guests and when possible accommodate their needs when it comes to room location etc. Our staff is engaged and is disappointed that their desire to be of assistance could be misinterpreted. We are a family and group oriented resort. “Hoping” for a romantic weekend can create expectations that could potentially be fulfilled with some prior communication with our concierge or members of our team.

Stayed at the Beach Resort Labor day weekend. Our preference is oceanfront, very relaxing to hear the waves crashing against the shore. The Beach resort is simple, but well maintained and South Yarmouth is situated near to many places to go and things to do.

The only drawback is that when busy, parking can be a bit of an issue, although the overflow parking seems to cover the needs, if a bit of a walk.

Room Tip: The Beach Resort only has 2 floors, go for the 2nd floor so you won't have folks walking directl...

This is our second trip to Red Jacket at Cape Cod with our toddler son.

First let me say that the property is gorgeous and the grounds, beach and both outdoor and indoor pool are well maintained and clean. The location is breathtaking and it is perfect for families (couples beware).

The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The food ranges from ok to decent but you'd do well to check out area restaurants of which there are plenty.

Now for the bad. I can't speak for other areas of the resort or the cottages but the past two years we've stayed in the family rooms. These are rooms with two double beds and a pocket door leading to another room where we were able to drop down a pack and play for our toddler to sleep in.

To put it mildly, the rooms need to be updated. Badly. In fact very badly. The decor is straight out of the late 70s and the room just feels grimy even though it's clean for the most part. The bathrooms are dingy and if you look closely in the corners of the room and down where the wall meets the rug, you see a lot of grime. Not dirty per se because they obviously clean but you just can't clean age. And the linens seem about as old as dirt as well. I shudder to think what a black light would reveal in that place.

And the TVs are just awful. Ours were something like a 14" tube TV. Couldn't even read the scores of a game from the bed it was so bad. Now I understand you're not there to watch TV but when you're there with your kids, you're stuck in the room from the time they go to sleep so this is actually very important.

I'd like to say that we'll be back again next year and while we probably will, we're going to explore other options until we hear that the rooms have been updated.

Room Tip: If staying in a family room, request the riverside otherwise you'll be pool side and be treated...

Thanks for taking the time submitting an objective review regarding your recent experience here at Red Jacket Beach. We agree that some of the family rooms which are not located on the riverside could use some updating. During the off-season it is our intent to refurbush the small amount of rooms which have not recieved the benefit of the current update. As we discussed we are pleased that you will be returning next year and i'm confident that anticipated improvements both in room presentation and new TV's will be in place.

Went with my husband for a anniversary weekend. This place is just average for the money. The room is just average and as everyone else said needs some updating. Our beds were hard as rocks and the pillows were the same. The drainage needs to be fixed in the bathroom. When you take a shower the water in the tub is half way up your legs. I thought it was going to overflow. The toilet takes forever to flush. My bed blanket had a big hole in it. They should have coffee makers in the room. Not everyone likes to be up and out early to get a coffee. We had breakfast in the restaurant. The food was not great. They never told us on check in that they would bring your bags up for you so we had to bring them to the other side of the hotel and up the stairs. The ice maker was a trip from the room. On the good side the beach was nice although we could have done without the large white tent near us flapping and making noises all night from the wind. On the good side, the beach looked nice . Won't be going back. You can get much more for your money elsewhere.

We stayed here in September 2012 while attending a wedding. The grounds were perfectly lovely with a nice pool and sandy beach area. Too bad there's so much sea-weed at this beach location though. And there were plenty of chairs and umbrellas for the use of guests. The motel style room we chose (the cheapest one with no view) were quite dated though. The toilet took forever to finish its flush so if you have several people in the room using it there's quite a wait! Other than that the room was OK though a bit dark even with the lights on. Of course I forgot about the energy saving bulbs in the vanity which take a while to come on......just wait and they are bright enough. But the rest of the room needs better lighting. Overall we had a lovely time at the wedding by the sea.

Room Tip: It actually was nice having our car right outside our sliding door and patio next to the ground floo...

We stayed at the Red Jacket over Labor Day weekend. If you judge the prices by the hotel room only, you would feel pretty ripped off. Our room was clean, but motel-ish. The bathroom was old and small. It is nice that the sink area is outside of the bathroom. The deck was very nice. We had a river view room, and the view was lovely. Still, the price is outrageous for the room if you really think what you can get for that amount of money.

You really have to take into consideration the location and amenities onsite. The outdoor pool was very nice. The kiddie pool was nice also, but freezing cold. There were not enough umbrellas at the pool. The beach was lovely, kept very clean, plenty of space for everyone, even when it was busy on Saturday. The beach umbrellas are plentiful and work great, unlike some places you stay they barely work or are never available. The beach staff person was very friendly.

The majority of the staff was very nice. The front desk people were very friendly. They actually seemed pretty happy to be there. The person who I think was the manager (a male) at the restaurant was friendly.

We ate at the restaurant for breakfast, both on a busy day, and on a slow day. This is one of the places where we had an issue with the staff. The servers took forever to come to the table to take our order, we had to go to the hostess to get someone to come over. I also heard another table having the same issue. Both days, the waitresses let the dirty dishes from the buffet pile up on the table. I could understand somewhat if it was very busy, but it was not busy at all on the second day, and the problems occurred with two different waitresses, so it seems as if it's a training problem. It sort of affected our enjoyment of the meal. The food at breakfast was good.

One other issue was the parking. On the busy Saturday, parking was very competitive. At one point there was a traffic jam of cars just hovering looking for spaces. We actually wanted to run out for an errand for a minute but felt we couldn't because we were afraid we wouldn't be able to park when we got back. We mentioned it to two different staff people who just sort of "shrugged" as if they didn't care too much. Also, my husband was nearly hit by a parking staff person in one of the golf carts who was going much too fast and really should have yieled to a pedestrian, no less a guest! Except for the very friendly and nice man at the entrance giving out parking passes on Saturday, the parking staff didn't impress us.

Overall, I think this is a nice spot for families since everything is right there that you need. It is too bad that it is so expensive. We will likely return.

Room Tip: We liked the view of the river.
