Wow, Jeff, the Innkeeper, has made quite a name for himself - and by our account, seems to be doing his best to live up to his reputation! Even our realtor knew about Jeff. Be forewarned, Jeff will stick to you like white on rice. At first, this may seem friendly & helpful, but don’t be fooled. Jeff will eagerly take any opportunity to point out the Inn’s rules, and subtly suggest how it is you might be breaking them. Take, for example, the gorgeous evening my boyfriend and I settled down by the pool for a well-deserved catnap. Just as we’d dozed off, out bounded Jeff like a St. Bernard, yelling “Hey! You two!! We NORMALLY close the pool at 6:00 pm, but I wanted you to know that you look like you are having so much fun, we’ll leave it open late for you!” Hey, thanks Jeff, I did not know I could look like such a party girl while comatose. He’ll also pepper you with endless questions about your planned activities (surprisingly undaunted by guests being mid-embrace) and try to steer you towards his favorites. And, as much as we loved all the attention we got from Jeff, we did hope for a little privacy as we held a tete-a-tete over the breakfast table perusing real-estate listings. But lo! There was Jeff, a veritable font of Berkshire real estate wisdom, and he even offered to sell us his Inn for a cool million. Maybe. Could put that on the tab?

Don't even think about staying here! The experience was so horrifible that we left even though we had paid for another night. The Innkeeper, Jeff, was offensively rude from moment one. He misrepresented the accommodations over the phone and, after booking the room with the clear requirement that we have late checkout on our day of departure, he demanded that we would have to leave even earlier than standard checkout time, accusing us of 'ingratitude' for reminding him of our agreement.

My wife's family (18 strong with 10 kids ranging in age from 6 to college) rented the whole Inn for 4 nights during winter break. It was fantastic. The breakfasts were terrific. The InnKeepers, Jeff and Maxine, helped us arrange for a chef and someone to do the dishes for dinners. We had full run of the place. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Everyone enjoyed the game room. We hooked up our Wii in the TV room. Best of all, just sitting around the fire and having a relaxing time with family without having to worry about hosting.

We went skiing at Butternut, bowling in Great Barrington, and hiking to Bash Bish Falls.

The Inn was great. Jeff and Maxine couldn't have been more helpful. They let us feel totally at home.

I'd recommend the rent the inn package for any large family gathering.

Our stay at the Weathervane Inn was our first experience with B&B's. We found the Weathervane Inn through a rewards program so we have no other B&B's to compare it to. I can only tell you about this experience.
When we arrived we were greeted by Jeff who was very friendly. We immediately took care of the paperwork and payment prior to Jeff giving us a tour. Before leaving us he told us that he and his wife were close by if we needed anything.
The Inn had such a comfortable setting that it felt as if you were staying with family. Jeff and Maxine couldn't have been any more friendly/helpful.
Not having a TV in the room was fine with us. It gave us reason to spend time together and enjoy a game of scrabble in the game room, relax on a couch by the fire and skim through the many books that are provided, and just sit and have a conversation and enjoy each others company.
The continental breakfast provided was plentiful but if you prefer a hot meal you can make arrangements ahead of time.
The Weathervane Inn has dinnerware, not china. They have a library/game room filled with books and board games. The furniture invites you to put your feet up, snuggle up and read a book. If you are the average person that enjoys comfort over the stuffiness of a five star hotel, then you will feel at home here. If you visit the Weathervane Inn and do not enjoy yourself then you should have gone to a more snobbish "upper class" B&B.
We would definitely consider staying at The Weathervane Inn again. The only thing I would change, is to at least provide a radio in the rooms. The silence of the country took some time to adjust to.

My children, teenage grandchildren and I were at this Inn for two days. My son, daughter-in-law and I were put in two rooms in the basement which smelled of must throughout. There were bugs in the bathroom both nights, the rugs were dirty and looked as though they were from the 1950's and never cleaned. The rugs and sofas on the first floor were musty and smelled. Although Jeff and his wife were pleasant, they need renovate basement rooms and become serious about cleaning. Vacuuming is not cleaning.

We stayed at the Weathervane as part of a wedding party and I knew if wasn't going to be good from the very first minute we walked into the door. As others have said Jeff the owner is extremely condescending which begins with a list of rules and regulations about the inn. He was extremely rude to others that stayed at the inn and I just couldn’t wait to leave. The place is rundown and dingy and there are much nicer places to stay in the area. This is definitely one of those places to avoid.

After anticipating a lovely weekend in the Berkshires, we were very disappointed with our treatment by the owner of the Weathervane Inn. As we entered the house, we were immediately asked for the remaining balance on our account. When stopping to embrace a friend who had arrived earlier, we were told that we could visit with our friends later and must follow him for the "tour"! Jeff became more obnoxious and condescending as the weekend wore on. When one guest arrived for breakfast and asked if she was too late, she received a curt "Yes" as Jeff turned his back and walked into the kitchen. He was still removing food from the side bar! We were a group of seniors who are long time friends with adult children , many of whom were present and we meet annually for a reunion. We have all travelled extensively around the world but nowhere in the world have we been treated like children who must be read rules of behaviour and chastised for taking a cup of coffee out of the dining room, as we were at the Weathervane Inn. As far as the accommodations went, they were so-so. Beds were small, overuse of room deodorizers. Having a sensitivity to frangrance I pulled the plug on the deodorizers in the bedroom, bathroom and hall, only to find them plugged in again when I would return.
It was indeed a relief to leave there and stay at a Hampton Inn in the Finger Lakes where we were welcomed, and enjoyed a lovely, leisurely breakfast in the morning. We were asked if we enjoyed our stay, given a box lunch to take in the car and wished a pleasant journey! All at a much more reasonable price. Why would anyone in their right mind, pay a fortune to go to the Weathervane Inn and be insulted?
