Comfortable but unfussy antiques, friendly and helpful innkeepers and a wonderful, fresh homecooked breakfast make this a great getaway in the Berkshires. The beautiful wood floors and tasteful, yet simple antiques make it feel like a visit to your great-aunt's summer cottage. The grounds are comfortable for cozying up with a good book or stargazing. Our last two visits, the pool was not available. We thought we would be disappointed...but it made no difference to us at all!
Michael and Wendy are wonderful hosts. They are quite willing to offer helpful information (like the fastest way in and out of a concert at Tanglewood or a great, off-the-beaten-path restaurant) but are also eager to have you enjoy the area on your own terms.
Wendy's breakfast is piece de resistance of any stay here. Every dish is crafted with carefully selected, farm-fresh ingredients and wonderfully prepared. It is served in their large breakfast room/ parlor at a wonderful, large antique table. It makes for a warm, convivial meal. By the time breakfast is over, you will have new ideas of places you will want to explore and a few new friends.
It's a hard place to leave.
