“Traditional New England”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2011

We stayed at the Dan’l Webster Inn the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The property is very nice, lovely landscaping, an attractive front entrance, ample parking to the side and rear. The site was a tavern/inn for many, many years and was rebuilt in the 1970’s after a fire destroyed the historic original structure. As such, it is a modern shell with period touches to reflect the original and the setting in Sandwich. The business is owned by a Southern Massachusetts hospitality group that also operates 2 other hotels and several restaurants.
Reservations were made via the Inn’s website at $159 per night/$175.92 with taxes, fees. You are charged for the first night at the time of reservation. Should need to cancel, you must do so 4 days prior to your arrival.
We booked a double bedded room and were given #31, on the second floor of the main building. Stairs only, no elevator. We enjoyed the benefit of a corner room with windows on 2 sides and a view from the front of the building. Both windows were equipped with screens and were openable. Come November the level of evening activity must be much less than summer, but it was absolutely dead quiet each night.
The room was comfortably furnished with quality pieces. The bed very comfortable. The bath more than adequate. Everything was very clean. A TV is hidden in the armoire with movie and other choices if desired. A Keurig coffee maker with the needed supplies is provided.
We ate each night in the Tavern (our intent was another place the second night, but they were closed) – there are 2 restaurants, and upscale one and the Tavern. Wood paneling, open fireplace, quasi-period pub-like decorations. The dining room had booths and open tables, adjacent to a bar area with a few more tables. A wide variety of menu options – salads, burgers, pizzas, to full meals and daily specials.
Every member of staff we encountered – front desk, housekeeping, restaurant, gift shop was friendly and made you feel welcome. The Dan’l Webster Inn projects the feel of a very traditional New England establishment, quiet, solidly traditional and comfortable in a grandmotherly sort of way.

Spent Thanksgiving night here in a clean, comfortable, colonial style room! The great location and friendly staff added to the experience. Our holiday dinner at their restaurant was excellent! I would highly recommend the Inn and restaurant!

For what it is, it's a great experience! The decor may be dated (as some say), but it's still in good condition and befitting to the colonial era.

Location is at the beginning of the Cape, so convenient - especially if you're a local.

Lounge service was a bit slow, but acceptable.

Dinner in the conservatory was excellent. The food was great, as compared to other reviewers. The ambiance of the outdoor garden and waterfall was a nice touch.

My only complaint is the quality of the glassware and the need for "tacky" fake plants -everywhere. Hideous!

Otherwise, great experience and we look forward to returning.

My bride of 33 years and I spent a romantic weekend at the Daniel Webster Inn. We were celebrating our anniverary. We were recommended by friends and were very pleased. The entire staff was courteous and friendly. Always a smiling face. The food at both the dining area and tavern were excellent. I highly recommend this Inn.

What a beautiful place - an ideal for a base to explore Cape Cod. A warm welcome awaits you at The Dan'Webster Inn in the quaint little town of Sandwich, MA. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped with beds that you just don't want to get up from. Excellent food in a beautiful glass-roofed dining room with glistening chandeliers but also the option of a smaller 'coaching inn' type of restaurant/bar. The hotel gift shop was sensibly priced and the lady running it could not have been more helpful. In fact, every one of the staff at the hotel was friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.
Take a walk around this small but beautiful village full of clapboard houses and pretty little shops. There's a particularly good thrift shop and a lovely craft shop in the village.
I would certainly recommend this hotel!

Nice old world hotel/inn and the actual main accommodation was excellent. The bedrooms were very disappointing and they were too dark. They were off a corridor with the main window from the bedroom facing this corridor. Therefore net curtains were required and when in the room, you needed all the lights on, which then meant anyone could see in to the room. It was not private enough unless you closed the curtains. The only other window was a small one in a separate dressing/sink area and not much light or indeed fresh air could come in. Very gloomy as a room.
The food was good. However if you ate in the 'Tavern' restaurant, the food was too expensive and elaborate not offering a balanced less simple pub style meal to that of the restaurant. Therefore we ate out locally at a much cheaper price which you would not necessarily want to do if you have been out all day site seeing.
Finally, the bathroom was a little dated and not refilled with toiletries daily so we were left short at times.
Be aware that in order to get in to the bed which was extremely high, a wooden set of two steps was provided on one side of the bed only. No good if you have disabilities or if you need to get out during the night.
The complimentary afternoon tea and cookies in the lounge was a lovely idea if you were around.

Room Tip: Our room was on a corridor with a function room at the end and it was not good when the room was let...

My wife and I stayed for three nights recently and had a fabulous time at the inn.The warmth of the staff and overall ambiance of the inn is second to none.If you are looking for a relaxed enjoyable stay that sort of takes you back in time, then this is it. The original main inn has an old time Victorian look and makes one feel as if they stepped back in time, which to us is great ,as the world is moving too fast nowadays. We did have the electric go out in our room ,except the bathroom, and the staff was on it right away and had it back on in minutes. Our room was very cozy and spacious and priced right. We were fortunate to stay there in the spring also and will continue to frequent there.Dining in the Tavern also makes you feel like you are in the original tavern from Daniel Webster's day.Breakfast in the atrium is wonderful also, especially with the view of the garden and pond.It is always sad to leave there as you feel like you are leaving a treasur behind. The inn is situated right in the center of town and it is a lovely town at that.We look forward to going back and hope we can make a winter visit there.

Room Tip: Really like the traditional rooms facing Main St.as they have a great view. Also, Fessenden House has...
