“Quiet and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2009

On our first visit to New England we stayed 5 nights in one of the rooms at Country Acres. The motel is on the outskirts of the lovely picture postcard village of Sandwich and in a good spot for touring Cape Cod. The friendly owner always greeted us in the morning when we went down to the conservatory for breakfast asking and advising on plans for the day. The room was fairly basic but typical to the photographs on the website. The walls are quite thin meaning we could hear any neighbouring occupants returning late if we were in bed but the noise did not continue unreasonably. We did find bits of leaves in the bed one night which we suspect was from the clean bedding being left on the room patio seats until the maids have made up the rooms. The lighting wasn’t particularly good and the room had an old feel to it but it was perfectly adequate as we weren’t there very often. Overall its quiet, reasonably priced and in an ideal location.

My friend and I stayed at Country Acres from the 12th untill the 17th of July. First of all, when visiting the Cape, Sandwich is by far the nicest place to stay. Not too far out from the mainland and the rest of the cape itself is very drivable. If you decide to indeed stay at Sandwich, by all means, choose this motel! Your price for value doesn't get any better - and we have stayed in a lot of motels - and the people running it are simply great. They will help you with whatever - information, beach towels, equipment and always seem to be in a good mood.
The rooms itself (we stayed in two different ones) are very neat, beds are fine, bathrooms well maintained and perfectly adequate. There's a pool present; great for swimming if the sea is just too cold for you. Plenty of beaches around, minimum of 15 min. drive.
Another positive about this motel is that it apparently attracts people from all walks of life. I've spent time talking to other (young) international travelers, young parents, seniors et cetera.
Supermarket, coffeeshops, movie theatre, minigolf, liquorstores, pizza place very close by; most of them just on route 6a.
All in all, this motel is a definite yes.

When we came there, room smelled a bit as some other guests have reported, which made us feel bit uncomfortable. After one night, smell was gone thanks to moisture remover, that was placed to our room without us even complaining about the issue. Staff was very helpful and we found the location very nice. Room was bit worn and breakfast consisted only of muffins.

Clean, comfortable with friendly hosts. I loved the quiet location and the service. Though I stayed only for a day, I will definitely go back for a longer time.

Thanks to Jeff & Becky for the great muffins!!

This is a great centrally located motel with nice, clean rooms. My husband enjoyed the High Definition TV in our queen size room. to watch the Patriots. The property is nicely landscaped with a pretty gazebo where you can sit out and read or eat your meals. The family that runs it - are friendly and extremely helpful with directions and recommendations (from dining to places to visit). In addition, we felt that it is reasonably priced for such a great location.

Pool looked clean and private however, we did not use it due to cooler weather.

The only drawback is that the streets east of the motel along Route 6A do not have streetlights.

We had a wonderful 2 day stay in a wonderful area. The room was nice, clean, and fit the area well with it's quaint decor. It wasn't the typical commercial motel, but a nice quietly located, friendly, family operated property. The staff (family) were very nice and friendly. The location suited us fine as it was central to destinations we wanted to visit and we had a nice quiet place to come back to without much travel. We'd definitely recommend this to anyone.

The motel sounded so wonderful online. However, when we arrived, it was okay to mediocre. The room we stayed in had knotty pine paneling, which was ok, but the unit hadn't been really updated since it was built (c. 1950's or earlier?). Something strange: our queen bed had flannel sheets (and they were knubby) in August on Cape Cod! Not very appealing, nor comfortable, and certainly too warm for the weather.

The biggest problem we had: the only clothes closet had a terrible musty odor. When I happened to mention it upon checking out the next day, the owner (presumably) said "oh, that's to be expected in closets that stay closed up." In all our years of traveling, we've never had a closet smell that bad. Most of them are closed up if they have a hinged door! We obviously could not use the closet to hang up any clothes. Not good.

The units need work. It appears the owners are trying to make as much money as possible (who could blame them?) without investing any new money on the inside. Too bad- it's a great location in a great little town on the cape.

  • Liked — Location and quiet size
  • Disliked — Lack of updating and odor problem in closet.

There are humidity problems we all fight here on Cape Cod. This is especially true when temperatures are not warm enough for a/c and not cool enough for the heater but perfect for windows to be open 24 hours a day, the sea breeze is great but very humid.
The "flannel sheets" were actually a cotton jersey sheet sets we thought we would try and will not use again, they took too long to dry anyway.
This room in the review ( and all the other rooms) has had new carpet, air conditioner/heater, and a mattress set within the last two years. Besides a new tv next year nothing else is planned as we love the "olde cape cod" style of our queen size rooms.
