Spud's has been my parents favorite place to eat for years. But then again, my Dad liked their liver and onions... go figure.
Sometimes a good restaurant experience comes from knowing how to order. I read some of the other reviews and have to chuckle. First thing I do in a new restaurant is to ask the staff what their personal favorite meal is or what is the most popular or the place's signature meal or the daily special or the chef's specialty. One of these choices is usually a good bet.
Maybe you really want a good steak. But if any particular place doesn't do steaks very well or the staff won't recommend (and I am not saying Spud's doesn't) - why order a disappointment? Ask the staff - they hear the complaints or accolades every day.
Spud's is an interesting place. No - it is not a 5-star restaurant... few really places are. This is more like a cozy family kitchen. Sure there's a bar for some of us, but the dining room is separated from the bar area for the rest of you. Nothing fancy - just simple and cozy. My parents favored the early-bird specials, but once you get past the stereotypes the food is just fine.
Looking for the 5-star experience - go somewhere else and pay the price. But if you want a good meal at a reasonable price, then Spud's delivers - just ask the staff!
