“will return here again and again...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2011

After taking a hiatus last year to go to the Outer Banks, we knew where we were returning this year! Just like we remembered it, great views, great owners, great weather (we lucked out as it rained the days before and after we left). The convenience of having the beach at your doorstep makes cleaning up for dinner a breeze, especially when traveling with a three year old. She made several friends around the tidal/kiddie pool, nice and warm probably for the wrong reasons, lol! We headed out onto the sand in the early morning low tide to walk and almost had the whole beach to ourselves. The only negatives to our two days was the bad showerhead with no water pressure (imagine showering under a water mister), and the spotty wifi (we were right next to the office and had to sit on the balcony to connect most times). Who cares? We were in beautiful Rockport on vacation (but it may have become a nuisance if we stayed longer). Can't wait to return next summer and stay more than just two days!

We were 4 ladies in one of the larger corner rooms. The beds are very comfortable (2 queen), and the drundle (sp?) bed (queen) was sooo comfortable too. The room has a sink, small stove/oven, large refirdgerator, microwave, dishes, glasses and utensils. The hotel is right on the beach, which we just love. We keep the slider door to the balcony and the door to enter the room open and we get a wonderful ocean breeze...lovely to awake to hear the waves crashing on the shore and to watch the sunrise from the balcony. The inkeepers are caring and sincere and definately want their guests to enjoy their stay. It rained a couple of days and we were able to have our pic of dvd's from the office to watch on our flat screen tv with a dvd player built in. Parking is available for one car, we had 2 and parked the extra car in a lot just a short walk down the street...$10 on friday and $18 on Sat/Sun. There is also metered street parking. This is our second summer visit to Captain's Bounty and we will make it an annual visit. Thank you Tim and Gwynn!

We brought our kayaks and launched right from the motel. Easy walk into town or biking-nice central location. Fridge in room and balconies overlooking the beach and sea. Friendly staff-great New England coastal motel.

Haven't stayed in a place like this in a long time, but that was the point. This is a 70's style motel, built before the mega "we can do everything" hotels that are now common. But, we wanted a place directly on the beach, where we could relax and enjoy the beautiful Atlantic and this is definately it. We were on the 3rd floor and had a small balcony where we could sit and watch people enjoying the little sandy beach below. I was concerned about the lack of air conditioning but the weather was beautiful and we slept with the sliding screen door open all night - the sound of the waves was all we heard - it was great! When we woke up at 5:45 (not on purpose) there was an amazing sunrise - the most beautiful one I have ever seen. Everything was very clean, and the owners are friendly and helpful. We walked down the street and ate breakfast at Helmut's Strudel and it is to die for - don't miss it. Rockport is a great little town with lots of shops with unusual, neat items. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return someday.

At high tide this hotel feels like being on a cruise ship in a balcony room without the sea sickness! You couldn't be closer to the water. I agree with the other reviewers. It's the location that makes this place incredible, but the wonderful staff and owners (with their very cute dogs) is icing on the cake. The free DVDs to borrow were great too.

I came here as a woman traveling alone for a few days. I couldn't ask for a better place to relax. The weather was chilly and wet, but I could still look out on the ocean from the comfort of my room. The interior furnishings are very "motel," but the bed is comfortable the fridge is a nice size. The only thing missing from the room is a table to work on. But I stayed in a small room with a Queen sized bed on the third floor. I think other rooms have tables. Plus there is no AC which could be a problem in the hot weather, although there is a nice breeze off the ocean. The third floor is also "Adults Only" which is great because the rooms and balconies are rather close together.

I'm not sure if I would bring my kids here. It is pretty close quarters and my kids are loud. Although there certainly were families with kids here and I never heard them.

Overall a wonderful 2 days!

Room Tip: Second and Third floors have the best balconies

My wife and I stayed at the Captain's Bounty on the Beach from August 1 to August 5, 2011. We had chosen this motel because of its unique oceanfront location at a reasonable price. After checking out the website, we noticed that all the pictures presented the views from the room at all moments of the day. This is what we were looking for and this is what we got!

Indeed, this three storey motel offers the best views we ever experienced since, at high tide, the beach is totally covered and the waves lap at the base of the building.

One has to expect a dated, but very clean, setting where some modern amenities such as air-conditioning were lacking. The room was large enough for two with a very convenient table in front of the patio door allowing for wonderful seafront dining if you wanted. (We indulged in seafood takeouts from Nate's, just across the street. )

The owners and the employees are most friendly and always eager to make suggestions to make things even better.

Room Tip: We had room #26, an end room on the 2nd floor. We were lucky to have quiet neighbors upstairs. Given...

We loved our stay here. On our arrival after a day of driving, we welcomed immensely the help the owner gave us in getting our luggage to our room. Our nice sized room on the second floor, complete with a kitchen, had a balcony overlooking the beach. When we were not out walking about Rockport or going to Bearskin Neck for boiled lobster, we enjoyed sitting on the balcony with our feet up watching everyone below enjoying a great day at the beach. Observing the lobstermen tending their traps was another bonus.

Definitely a great place to stay in Rockport! Not plush, but more than adequate.
