“peaceful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

me and my husband went there in june and luckily for us,it was a bit cloudy day which was perfect for that place since there are very less shades and more open space(but not so much for playing a sport/activity).we spent 3-4hrs there and didnt know how the time went. the view is really good of the ocean and its really relaxing sitting there listening to the waves crushing on the rocks. the best thing was there are many granite rocks which we climbed up n down and went farther.there are good trails..easy,but walking on the rocks in itself was a bit of exercise.the place is well marked. the visitor center is good telling its history. only 2-3 picnic tables,no grills. a beautiful pond,no swimming. but i guess it can be hard to sit there for many hours if the sun's is out and really hot, might need sunscreen.

Beautiful ocean overlook at historic military sighting station. Well maintained paths and flora. A must see spot on Cape Ann. Public parking available.

“Halibut State Park - Great Day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

When we arrived there was quite a line to park because the parking lot isn’t that big. We waited about 20 minutes and finally parked for only $2! Once you park, it’s about a 10 minute walk on a trail with wood chips (note: this trail isn’t ideal for umbrella strollers). Halibut State Park is built around an old quarry. It really is beautiful. Once you get to the end of the trail there is a restroom and place for picnics. It’s also where the trails down to the water, up to the look out point and around the property begin.

The outlook area is very large and the view is stunning. The area down by the water is also great. The rocks are a bit slippery and large so be careful! But the tide pools are so much fun for the kids. Just don’t forget a second set of clothes. Water shoes are a good idea as well.

Halibut State Park is a great place to spend the day for virtually only $2! Pack a picnic lunch, bring a blanket and enjoy the setting. What a hidden gem on the northshore!

“Nice but Small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

A lot of great stuff packed into a small area at Halibut Point State Park. The trails here are well maintained and go around the rock quarry and to some rocky seaside cliffs among a few other places. Main downside is that there just isn't that many miles of trails and we had to make an effort to get two hours of hiking out of our trip. But this place is definitely worth a visit. Young children would have fun on these trails.
