“Suede, jazz singer creates a space for all to enjoy her artistry.”

Suede was the attraction. Fabulous, exuberant, emotional........and what a voice. She owns her crowd and they love her right back.

“Wonderful venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2011

The Crown & Anchor has it all. Performance venue, lounge, piano bar and restaurant. Food is always good and the best shows in town are usually booked at the Crown

“swim, dance, shows, dinner, lodging... an actual resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2011

I feel as though I can review most of the Crown & Anchor facility's amenities with a fairness and honesty not all have, as I've done so many things on the complex (or the compound, as Dina Martina calls it).

The pool, the poolside bar & staff, all get an A+ from me. Everyone's friendly, the cocktail server is always available (but will leave you alone if you're reading or obviously zoning out), and the facilility is kept clean & tidy. Drinks are expensive, but so too are they every single other place in town. The bartenders at the C&A are some of the friendliest in town (only Ross' Grill, Bayside Betsy's and the Mews can compete for friendlier bar staff).

There are a few club options: The Wave Bar, which has giant TV screens showing music & comedy videos, and has a weekly karaoke night & good martinis, never has a cover. The Paramount, a very state-of-the-art light & sound facility, where mostly shows & house music reign, which also opens onto the pool patio to allow for fresh air, an outdoor smoke, or a romantic snuggle looking upon the night-lit bay. The Vault, which caters to the rugged & masculine, has frequently advertised events.

The hotel, which offers serveral rooms with balconies over-looking either the pool/bay or Commercial Street, is a very clean, well-kept, tastefully-decorated lodging. It lacks the personal nuance of a Bed & Breakfast or an elegant inn like The Anchor Inn or Lands End, but its location is pitch perfect for those who like to be in the center of the activity without sacrificing creature comforts or hygiene. A lesbian couple I'm extrememy close with get the same room over-looking the pool every time they visit, and their only complaint is the lack of parking for hotel guests.

The Central House restaurant, which I've reviewed separately, is an excellent choice for those seeing a show here.

The best shows in town tend to either be here or at Vixen, and both venues offer the right amount of space (plus proper light & sound), to provide a true entertainment experience. Legendary comics, musicians, and Ryan Landry & the Gold Dust Orphans, help keep the nights booked, and drag geniuses like Dina Martina & the "girls" of Illusions, insure nobody leaves P-town without some sparkle & camp. The box office is very friendly, efficient & well run, and unlike the other venues, the fliers for the shows are tucked neatly in a wall-side kiosk (much like travel brochures at a rest stop), instead of being forced in your face by a screaming barker. The Crown & Anchor has class, dignity, and plenty of entertainment options for most. I give the entertainment & box office an A+ here too.

“I will not go again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2011

The experience was a mixed bag at the Crown and Anchor. The restaurant manager, Peter, was very nice and hospitable. He seemed to have an extensive knowledge of wines.
However, our waitress, Rachel, was one of the rudiest people I have ever met. When asking her about several menu items, she told me to "Hurry up, I dont have all day." We could not believe she said that to us. We need to ask questions, to decide what to order. Also, I overheard complaining about other servers and someone who did not tip her well.
Overall, the food was well prepared and quite good. The prices were fair and the servings were moderate.
Later, we went into some of the clubs at crown and anchor. The drinks were horribly overpriced. We will not come back to this place.

“Into the Groove”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2006

The Crown and Anchor is the BEST spot to go to dance at night! The DJ plays the latest techno/house music out there, the dance floor is spacious and you have an outside deck that faces the beach that you can go to cool off and then run back in once energized to continue dancing! It also has cabaret shows during the early evenings. Shows that are BETTER than Broadway! They are originals and amazing! They also have a small video room bar that you can enjoy catching up to some good music videos in wide screen tv's and a good size dance floor to dance at the same time. Check it out!
