After my stay June 23-26, I came to tripadvisor to write this review and could not believe that John Carver Inn was ranked 6 of 8 hotels in plymouth, I looked at pictures of the Best Western (ranked #1) and Pligirm Sands on Long Beach (ranked #2) and John Carver looks like a much better place. The lesson I learned was to make sure I read reviews and not just base choice on rankings. All places will have their problems, it's about the problems you can deal with. Now about John Carver Inn.
First, the pictures don't do the play justice, particularly the picture of the front of the hotel taken from the bottom of a hill. It makes it appear that this hotel is located in the forest off the beaten path and this is far from the truth. In fact, the hotel is in a busy area of town 1 block away from main st where all the shops are about 3 blocks away from the ocean, not far at all. This was a pleasant surprise to us.
We checked in really late with no problem. In fact concierge said he was waiting on us. Nice to feel that you are not just another number. He also upgraded our room upon request, which was also really nice of him.
Looking around the lobby, the furniture and decor was older looking but still nice looking. Not sure if it's by design or the hotel saving money?
Took elevator up to room and the room also had older furniture, but it was really nice. A lot of Dark wood, possibly cherry wood, that was freshly polished. Pulled back sheets and they were super clean!!! We looked closely for stains and did not find any. Fiance is very particular when it comes to cleanliness. She brings her own pillow case lol. Looked under bed and it was clean. Looked in drawers and they were all clean. Bed even had a step stool for those on shorter side and a foam mattress. Bathroom was clean and they provided fresh towels if you put old towels on floor. Only thing was the shower rod was really rusty. I put my washcloth on it after showering and when I went for it in the morning, it had rust stains that appeared to be something else lol. Definitely need new shower rods and I meant to tell concierge before I left. Also, strips on tub to keep from slipping were good but could be better. They even had a filter for drinking water in the bathroom.
Hotel restaurant had really good food! Lots of options, timely service and good taste. And waiters were excellent. Never waited long for food or check. We did eat breakfast later, 11-12noon so restaurant was fairly empty. People here go to sleep early and wake up early the way nature intends.
Check out was easy and quick. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't have any problems so we didn't get to test their patience and resolve. I definitely would recommend this place to others.

We like to see these thorough reviews That not only show how good we can be but that lets us know about issues that we sometimes miss. The Housekeeping and Maintenance departments have gone through and checked the shower rods. We have always put an emphasis on getting our staff to take care of the guest and it is great to see that you recognized that with Dan (the gentleman who checked you in). We’ll see you the next time you’re in Plymouth. - Joe
