“John Carver Inn...terrific experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

We enjoyed our stay - the in-room fireplace, four-poster bed were terrific. The hotel is centrally located to the downtown Plymouth shopping area, therefore, we never had to move our car. The hotel staff were pleasant and accommodating. Only drawback - many young children - I think becuase of the pool area. Often, they would run up and down the halls - which was a little annoying. Overall though, great hotel!

G8rlady, Thank you for the review sorry about all those kids but as you mentioned we do have a great pool for people to come swim in. I am glad to hear that your experience was good and that our staff took care of you. Hope to see you again soon - Joe

Stayed here 1 night. Got a good price on Hotwire. Pool area is really nice, especially if you have children. The Inn is somewhat older, but clean and nice. The neat thing about this Inn is that it is located right near the place of the original Plymouth Plantaion. Across the road is the Jenney House and Mill - awesome and the Sparrow House (all from Plymouth era). Also within easy walking distance to Plymouth Rock and Harbor.

Room was immaculate, cleaner than most hotels when you look close. Check in staff at front desk was very friendly and helpful with local restaurant info. In house restaurant was great for breakfast (sorry didn't eat and other meals there, but menus looked good. Comfortable rooms, very comfy bed and plenty of pillows. The only slight problem was the curtains interfere with the heater/air conditioner, hanging to far over causing air to go up behind them. Still got air flow through the room and was very comfortable, but could effect A/C on a hot day. Hotel has an indoor pool with slide and waterfall for kids. Close walk to downtown shops and restaurants, and even venturing down to the water a little further or "the rock". Much better than other hotels in Plymouth that I've been to that haven't had work done to them in many years. The rooms were well and tastefully decorated and very clean. Stayed 2 nights and would be happy to go back again. If I was in Plymouth, I'd prefer to stay here instead of several others that I have previously. Wins hands down.

Room Tip: if you don't have kids, then stay further away from the pool end, it could be a little busy down...

After reading some reviews we did not quite know what to expect. We stayed some 5 nights as part of a tour from the UK. We have to say that we found this hotel to be pretty good. Our room was perfectly fine. The staff were friendly and attentive especially in the restauarnt .. Breakfast was really good and the choice of food in the evening was fine. Meals were pretty good on the whole and generally good value . There is an indoor swimming pool and the hotel is situated within walking distance of the town and the sea front . A pleadsant park is situated opposite also. We really liked Plymouth with all its history and we would say our stay was most enjoyable.

Arrived here for the final night of our trip to New England, which had so far been superb. The room was just okay, but smelt of cooking and grease. This was explained by a quick look out of the window, to identify an extractor fan from the kitchens below.
We went into the restaurant for dinner and it was a disaster from start to finish. Firstly the wine was brought to the table and was left unopened and un poured by our waiter. My husband ordered a spinach and egg salad as his starter. This arrived minus the egg. When queried, we were told "we're out of eggs". The starters and the mains were brought to the table together. We both ordered flat iron steaks rolled in black pepper and topped with caramelised onions and blue cheese. I asked for a jacket potato and was told they were out of those too. We were presented with plain steaks. When we queried this, the waiter said he could sprinkle some blue cheese on the top! The manageress was very apologetic and offered to change our meals when we had started eating them. She was very apologetic and didn't charge us for the mains, but the experience really put a damper on our evening.

This will be a short review as I only stayed on night (Sept 2012). Room is pretty standard, a little outdated but functional. Windows open, but no screens so watch for bugs. My wife felt there was a musty smell but it didnt bother me. Heat/AC worked OK, but did not have a digital setting. Room was very clean.Restaurant was good, nice menu size. Quiet at night, but we went to bed at 2AM after visiting downtown, so we might have been the noisy ones (not on purpose!).

Hotel is close to the highway for easy access, and close to downtown which is easy walking distance. A lot of shops/bars/restaurants to walk to, as well as some of the historic sights. Dunkin Donuts and Honeydew Donuts are a two minute walk away for you coffee lovers, plus a convenience store for other things you may have forgotten.
The staff was very friendly and helped us out a few times, and seemed genuinely happy to be of service.
All in all a pleasant stay, but at their prices I cannot rate them more than 3 stars. We got a nice discounted group rate so I was satisfied with it, but if I paid full price it would be a different story.

I spent Sunday night at John Carver Inn with my grandkids and really enjoyed the friendly staff and comfortable surroundings. The Hearth and Kettle restaurant is was very good about my dietary gluten intolerant and the food and selection was excellent. The pool with a nice size slide was really fun for the kids while I soaked in a very nice hot tub. I highly recommend staying here and would come back if I find I want to visit the area again.

Room Tip: I hear rooms 309 and 311 might be haunted for the adventure seekers!
