“Cute, quiet, good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

This cute but small hotel is well located for walks into Plymouth Center. Plenty of on-street parking. Bring your own shampoo and hair dryer!

We stayed in rooms 1 and 2, at the back of the property. Room 1 has a double (not queen) bed, while 2 has a double bed and a twin bed. Room 2 feels cramped, but makes a perfectly fine kids' room. Both had been recently redecorated, with new wallpaper and carpet, and freshly painted. The in-room appliances were new (small TV, microwave, and mini fridge). The bathroom had also been redone recently, with new fixtures and wall treatments. The old wooden furniture showed wear, as did the small formica-topped desk next to the bed, but it was no problem. The neighborhood is pretty, quiet and well maintained, with many restaurants within easy walking distance. We liked Persy's Restaurant well enough at Saturday lunch to return for Sunday breakfast. It's a two-mile drive to Plimoth Plantation.

The rooms were very clean. Very effective air conditioning; just what we needed after walking around town on a humid afternoon. The fan runs constantly, so that the A/C noise becomes mere background noise instead of a repeated sleep interruption every time it kicks on. We could park directly outside our room for a very short walk with our bags.

The shower stall is small. No hair dryer was provided, and no shampoo either; good thing my wife brought her shampoo, though it did result in my daughter telling me, "Gee, Dad, your hair smells terrific" several times with a smile. The water is a little soft, and the mattress is a little hard. Although the windows have both mini-blinds and draperies, room 1 was not very dark when we turned off the lights, due to lights outside. Although the TV was new, we didn't manage to get anything other than a blank screen from it. We thought about asking the owners for help with it, but decided to just turn it off, and ended up spending the evening in a lovely conversation instead.

We arrived to find a very clean, but cozy and a little outdated motel. The owners were exceptionally nice and friendly telling us where to grab the best bite to eat in town. There was only one plug that was grounded (3 pronged) in the bathroom so we had to charge phones, and ipads in the bathroom on the sink. Not the best place for electronics. The place was very clean on the surface, but don't go looking for a plug behind the bed or you'll find some old dust bunnies. Overall this was a clean place to rest our heads on our journey, but we won't be staying again next time to the area. For the price of the motel we thought it would be a little more modern and the bathroom was tiny as was the shower.

We stayed in the carriage room-attached to the garage. It was clean and amazingly quiet. We did park on the road, not a big deal and there were patrol cars parked further down so why wouldn't they be safe. The room had a good size bathroom with shower. The room had a twin and queen, the queen had a very comfy mattress. There could have been one less table/night stand for a little more room. A fridge and microwave were handy to have too. Bring your own hairdryer! I felt it was a great value for 125/night and thats what really matters!

The Blue Anchor was perfect for our family of six, with four young kids. We could walk from the motel to breakfast at Water Street Cafe, Plymouth rock and Mayflower II, Brewster Gardens, shops along Sandwich St, and a really nice playground right around the corner adjacent to Nathaniel Morton school.

We stayed in #4, in the cottages out back. It has a main room with a double bed, three chairs, microwave, mini fridge, counter, and plenty of room for a few suitcases. The kids were in the second bedroom, with another double bed, rollaway, and one of our inflatable mattress. The whole place feels very homey and inviting...as another reviewer said, it's like staying at Grandma's guest house. In our early years of marriage, we always opted for apartments with charm, character, and an interesting neighborhood over the sterile but more amenity-rich complex. If you feel the same way, The Blue Anchor will appeal to you, too.

The Blue Anchor is a quaint little house in Plymouth, in a residential neighborhood but easy walking distance to the main street shops and restaurants. We had room 7, a large room with refrigerator, sitting area, and a small private bath. Parking on the street was a breeze. I'd recommend the house rooms, as the 4 motel-type rooms in the back didn't look like they had nearly as much character. No breakfast, but there was a Dunkin' Donuts around the corner

Room Tip: Room 7 is top floor (one flight up) of the house; ample room for all your things and to hang out if...

Just spent another excellent stay at the Blue Anchor, Plymouth. The Lodges at the rear provide homely and value for money. The owners make you very welcome and look after all your needs. The accommodation is well situated for visiting all the attractions of the area, even by foot. Would recommend and will visit again

Room Tip: Go for the lodges

Make sure you ask before registering if there is parking. If you rent the motel in the back (4 units), you can park there. But if you rent a room in the house, you park on the street. When we went there was something going on at the school and at the building next door and we went around the block for half hour to find a place to park and then had to walk a block with all of our paraphernalia.

Otherwise...no complaints whatsoever. Reasonable cost for the area and clean and cozy room.

Room Tip: I would try to rent one of the motel rooms in the back so as to be sure to have a private parking ar...
