Description: First opened January 2, 1996 the Tavern quickly came to be a staple for the locals and a destination for the out of town visitors. Between the homey and inviting atmosphere created in the light of the warmth of our home and the delectable dishes presented with portions true to the meaning of home cooking hospitality, it is no wonder that the Tavern From Tower Square remains on the map as one of the areas most consistent, most affordable and most enjoyable restaurants to enjoy day after day, year after year.

“A New Find for Us in Plainville, MA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2012

We visited this restaurant on the recommendation of friends. We were very happy with this restaurant. The atmosphere inside was very homey - couches in the waiting area and a warm feeling of being in a living room and waterview by the window seats. The Tavern doesn't look particularly attractive from the outside, but inside is warm and friendly. The staff is wonderful and caring from the hostess to the waitstaff. We felt as if we had been there before from their friendliness. The prices were great. I had the baked scrod, which was abundant and good; my husband had the baked scallops, which he said were the best (and he is still talking about how good they were); and our friends had the scallops and chicken with eggplant, which they were very happy with. We liked everything about The Tavern and look forward to our return visit.

“What a disappointment!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

I've heard so many people rave about this place that I finally decided to check it out with two of my friends. Overall, our dining experience wasn't great. It took nearly 20 minutes for us to be seated after the host told us he only needed a couple minutes to clear a table. Our server was slow and not very personable. The dining area was dark and dated. Portions were very generous and the prices were reasonable, but the food itself was bland.

On the plus side, the restaurant has a nice lounge area with live music, and the night we went the band was quite good. My rating would probably be higher if I had stuck to drinks in the lounge and skipped dinner!

“Reservations - don't bother”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

Made reservations for family birthday. We sat and watched other parties get seated, we waited and waited and waited. Being next to the hostess desk, we heard parties come in (same number of people) and apologize for not having reservations (but adding that they dine here all the time) and get seated immediately. We had been previously, but were not regulars. Unless you visit regular, don't count on being seated.

“A Brunch to Write Home About”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2011

On Sunday morning I took the family, including two small grandchildren to The Tavern in Plainvillle because they offered a brunch. We were not disappointed. The place was welcoming, clean, the decor colonial overlooking a lake, the service friendly and professional, and the food was plentiful, and simply sumptuous. From the scrambled eggs with tomato and onion, the bacon and sausage, to the turkey hash, eggs benedict and carving stations, the food was fantastic. The treat for the whole table was the signature french toast, bread coated in egg covered in cornflakes and deep fried. Each bite explodes in your mouth with a taste delight; whether you have it with butter and syrup or the fresh whip cream and strawberry sauce. You could also order individualized omelets and fresh homemade soups of the day. Definitely going back whenever we visit the kids!
