“Excellent food, drink and atmosphere”

Completely enjoyed our visit to the Offshore on our first night on MV. After about an hour wait, we got a table and enjoyed the food and drinks. Very well done!

“Great Beer and Food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

If you like very high quality Craft beer and good food. Offshore Ale is the place to go. There are usually at least 12 or more different brews on tap ranging from dark porters to the very light East Chop Light and everything in between. The food is excellent with many unique creations on the menu.
It has a relaxed atmosphere, welcomes children and is family friendly.

“Service was really good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014 via mobile

We were fortunate to get an outside table on a nice day. Selection of beer was really great, food was good with ample portions. Our server was unfailingly polite, helpful and attentive. Also very handsome and well mannered, which never hurts!

“Surprisingly disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

The restaurant setting had a lot of promise, but really fell short in some areas. It's very rustic, decorated with lots of wooden accents. Unfortunately, some of the timbers looked old and dusty in comparison to others. They weren't dusty per se, they just looked that way. While we arrived shortly after they opened, some of the chairs/tables seemed misaligned, almost like they hadn't been set the night before. There is a nice barrel of free, salted peanuts when you first walk in the door. And shells are good to throw on the floor. I like that. In general, there is a nice atmosphere.

Service was less than stellar. Three waitresses were standing by the door when we arrived, but no one was there to seat us immediately when we came in. A few people were going around pulling the beer menus off the table. I noticed a chalkboard over the bar listing the beers available. When we were seated, we were asked about starting off with a drink. We mentioned the absence of the beer menus, and a paper list of beers (with a couple of them crossed off) was handed to us. It certainly didn't list all of the beers that were on the chalkboard, but were now out of our line of sight. So we never had an accurate listing of options when were seated. For the most part, however, it felt like things really hadn't been reset from the night before.

Another slightly annoying thing were the many misspellings on the menus. "Mounths" instead of "months" and "chardenay" instead of "chardonnay" were just two errors found on a single item. I shouldn't have to re-read things on a menu to understand what is meant.

On the positive side, I ordered an Argus beer - a Belgian ale aged in a wine barrel. Very, very nice change of pace. For food, we ordered an appetizer of fried calamari which was a little greasy and just a little over-cooked, but tasted pretty good otherwise. The Roasted Duck pizza was relatively good - sliced duck breast, pancetta, carmelized leeks, and parmesan - a nice combination. But this really belonged under the flatbread portion of their menu. There was no sauce or mozzarella. Really needed something to remove the dryness of the crust. It sort of had the feel of a white pizza, but really was more of what you get when you order a flatbread. Felt it was a little overpriced at $19.95, even for the area.

Our server, a young girl, really seemed inexperience and thrown off by even the most basic questions that we had, like what beers were available and what other types were. It's a brewpub. You have to know your core product. Timing was quite bad - asking us if our apps were okay IMMEDIATELY after they were put on our table and before we even had a chance to put some on our plates. Was friendly, but that's about all she had going for her. Sorry.

Overall, the beer was great, the rest was par at very best. Would not recommend.

“So good, we went back a second night.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2014

I visited Offshore Ale for dinner with 3 teenage boys. They enjoyed pizza and ribs, which were all very good, but the root beer was the reason we went back again. The boys tried something new on the menu, and liked it again, and got more root beer. They also asked for root beer in a "to-go" cup. The wait staff was excellent both nights, well worth the wait when they are busy.
