“Peaceful and informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Most of these hundreds of lovely, quaint cottages are huddled together in vividly decorated splendor. You'll feel like you stepped into another world. Don't miss going into the museum which is actually one of the houses decorated as a typical house might have looked on the inside.

“Cottage City worth the walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

This collection of 300+ cottages is a must see. It speaks of an era of faith-based camps that were popular in 1800's. It evolved from tents to camps, mostly for summer use. Now a national historic district, nothing can be done to the outside. Do visit the museum and talk with staff - they have photos and stories of an earlier time. Interestingly, cottage owners do not own land - they have a one year renewable lease. When I visited 12 cottages were for sale - I was told for $300,000 to $500,000. Neat area to walk around.

“Learn why they call THIS a campground! Wow! Interesting!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Learn about the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association, which dates to 1835. Very colorful, gingerbread cottages. I loved the one with the sign that read: "On this site, in 1897, nothing happened!" LOL

Seriously, these cottages top the Battery in Charleston, SC for original color schemes, in my humble, though accurate, opinion!

You can walk from Oak Bluffs, through the village of cottages (campground), to the Hy-Line Ferry back to the mainland. You'll spend a little less than 1 hour on this walking tour.

“Don't miss seeing the gingerbread cottages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

It is great to stroll through the campground which is quiet and peaceful an see the many different types of gingerbread cottages there. Also, Illumination Night in August is excellent where the campground community is lit up by different lanterns and a sing-along program is also conducted in the campground.
