“Love this B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2007

We go back to this little B&B every year. First of all you can't beat the ocean front location. Some rooms get full or partial ocean views. Sitting on the porch in the morning or evening and looking at the ocean is priceless. The breakfast is basic but homemade. Some rooms are smaller than others, but all are very clean and have separate bathrooms. The staff is extremely friendly and are ready to help in any way. The B&B is a 5 min walk from center of Oak Bluffs. We are travelling here in a few weeks and I can't wait.

This being our first trip to Martha's Vineyard, we decided to be a little risky and play everything by ear. Upon doing some research on the B&B's on Martha's Vineyard we did come across "The Capricorn House" and we're very impressed. After we arrived we took the bus down to Oak Bluffs and walked right to the Capricorn House.

The Inn Keeper, Deeidre, informed us that there was just one room left and it was available for the walk in rate! We ended up getting Room #1 which we could not have been any happier with.
We had our own spacious private deck overlooking the Natucket Sound and Gingerbread Cottages on Pequot ave. We also lucked out by having a beautiful view of the sound from the window directly in front of our bed. When you lay down on the bed your only view is of the water and the boats sailing by. What an amazing room for the price! There is no need for an air conditioner in this room because you can get plenty of breeze from the two windows, deck, and ceiling fan. Some people might consider the bathroom small, but it is clean and it is all you will need for a stay on the Vineyard.

We did get to peek at room #4, The Starboard Deck room, and it is absolutely amazing! Need less to say, if you go to reserve a room and #4 is taken up, you will not be dissapointed with #1!

The Breakfast spread was very good! Plenty of Bagels, cereal, fruit, milk, coffee, etc. You really couldn't ask for more. Plus Deeidre allows you to store your drinks in the fridge which is an added bonus.
Perfect start to the day. After our first day there we felt as if we had known Deeidre for years!

The Location is perfect. You are across the street from State Beach, which has very calm waters, and does not seem to get that crowded. You are about four blocks away from the park and center of town, but you are actually away from all of the noise, which is a plus. You can walk to the Steamship authority, bus stops, and shops, you really don't need a car. Edgartown is a ten minute bus ride, which comes very frequently. Aqunniah is about an hour bus ride, which is quite enjoyable.

All and all, an amazing location, awesome breakfast, amazing service, and spectacular views! Would we stay here again, hell yeah!

We spent 4 nights here at the end of June. Room was small but clean with comfortable king bed and pillows. Fresh baked muffins and melon were part of the continental breakfast. Capricorn House is oposite a beach and it was so relaxing to have breakfast on the porch overlooking the water. It's a perfect location to walk into Oak Bluffs and bus (both less than 10 min) or go right down to the beach across the street. This is best located B&B on the island. I would definately stay here again.

We stayed for a weekend, had great weather, and the staff was welcoming, but the accommodations and amenities were on the marginal side. The location to the downtown area of Oak Bluffs and the Steamship Authority were great and easily walkable, and it is right across the street from a public beach, but there are better deals to be found at other bed and breakfasts for the same or slightly more money within Oak Bluffs.

My wife and i had the pleasure of staying at the Capricorn House for 5 days in July. The entire stay was "off the charts" great in every way.The location is perfect, far enough from the noise of Oak Bluffs but just a short walk to get to all the fun.if you like a big private deck overlooking the ocean and a picture window that you can see the most incredible sunrises--then this is the place for you.The room itself was very clean.A special thanks to Laurana who not only took geat care of our room-but was very informative and gave us great ideas on what to do and where to go.We went to Disney this past HOLIDAY season where they treat everyone like a guest. At the Capricorn House they made us feel like we were staying with friends. If you are planning a trip to Marthas Vineyard-dont think about staying anywhere else. The Capricorn House IS THE BEST!!!!

Another fantastic vacation staying at the Capricorn House on MV.
Loved the continental breakfast...great way to start the day. This was our 3rd summer staying at the Capricorn House. We feel more like family than quests. What a thrill to go to sleep listening to the ocean and to wake up to a magnificent sunrise all witnessed from the view of our room. Thanks again for a wonderful time. See you next summer!

We stayed at the Capricorn house for three days in August, and we would not recommend this place to anyone. The only upside is the house's proximity to the town of Oak Bluffs and the bus lines. The deck with the water views are oversold mostly because being out there is uncomfortable with no cushions nor the is furniture ever wiped down. The breakfast was a joke with a few watermelon slices for the fruit. We could deal with the ultra small rooms, but I cannot deal with the mold in the showers or the rude staff. The first morning we were there, the woman who was working there was cutting out pictures of the Patriots and Red Sox and taping them to the refrigerator--completely unaware that a guest would like to get to the coffee pot. This same employee sat on the front porch talking loudly into her cell phone and her Nextel two-way until she noticed guests were around (we had been there for a while). She moved to the back of the house to continue her conversation, but didn't decrease the volume.
