“Fantastic place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2010

Stayed there in May last year it was so nice we went back in September. Staff is very friendly, the hotel is located very near to the restaurants and shopping area in Oak Bluff, very clean rooms and quiet at night. If you go get the room with an ocean view, you can lie in your bed and watch the sun rise over the ocean. Martha's Vineyard and Nashua House is the best place to spend a fantastic vacation. Stayed out of season, parked easily right outside the front porch. The lady on front desk was supremely helpful and informitive. Quaint clapboard mansion house very close to all the necessary amenities in town, and right next door to the quiet brew-pub (there is a god!).

As you ascend the stairs, every footstep brings a creek and groan from the wooden structure, somewhat comforting and very appropriate for the history of the island and it's elegant beauty. The rooms were small but beautifully in keeping with the surroundings, tastefully chintzy and colonial , small LCD TV and clean, modern bathroom facilities across the hall. The room went out onto the verrandah via a flyscreen door and overlooked the street and views to the sea on the right - very brisk and refreshing in October.

Sofas in the lobby along with all the maps, flyers, books and pamphlets needed to help explore the island. GO over the road to the brew-pub, good meals, great brews, peanut shells on the floor - heaven.

Nashua House, I will be back. A truly honest little place that i enjoyed very much.

My sister and I stayed here for a week in September and were VERY pleased with our visit! Upon our arrival we found the room that we had reserved online to be too small since it only had one double bed. We went to the front desk to see if we could switch to another room and the manager, Lory, was so kind that she made some reservation changes to accommodate our request for a room with two beds! She even hauled the complimentary mini-fridge all the way up to the third floor to our new room! She was really the best! This was my second visit to Nashua House, and I will definitely stay here every time I come to the Vineyard! I love the quaint Victorian architecture of the building, and it's smack in the middle of Oak Bluffs so you can walk to the fun boutiques and the variety of wonderful restaurants on Circuit Ave., plus Ocean Park and the beach are only 1-2 blocks in the other direction. Great place! I highly recommend it!

The Vineyard isn't cheap, but surprisingly the Nashua House is. If you're feeling lucky, they have walk-in rates of $99 sometimes, but we felt that was like playing with fire and made a reservation.

The rooms differ in size, some very small and some are average sized. And a couple have water views and access to a porch. If you score one of those, we think you'll have a great time.

Some people complain about noise, but we didn't notice much. We've stayed here twice and got woken up more by the sun (bright in the east facing rooms) than noise from the Ale House next door.

Rooms are clean, shared bathroom was clean too. We had to ask for clean towels a few times instead of them being automatically restocked. Great cookies on the front desk each day!

This isn't a palace, but for the money we think it's about as good as you can get on the Vineyard.

We stayed here over Columbus Day weekend. The location and staff were great, however after reading the reviews about the thin walls we decided to bring ear plugs for sleeping. The rooms are very small, which didn't bother us until we tried to go to sleep. It is located accross the street from a bar with entertainment until 1:00am. It is located next to a tiny park that is full of people 1/2 the night (one was a sax player). The bathrooms were down the hall, but we heard EVERYTHING that went on in the bathroom! People were showering & using the hair dryer at 11:00pm. The guests in the room next to ours came in at 2:48 am and were loud, drunk, and had very noisey sex. After they passed out, we were kept awake all night with their snoring (this is with our noise blocking ear plugs!) Yes this is the cheapest place on the island, but when you are so tired the next morning due to the lack of sleep, it ruins your vacation on this wonderful island. SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY FOR A BETTER MOTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Positives first; you can walk to everything even to the ferry. And the staff are helpful. BUT. the rooms are tiny and since this is an old victorian house with creaky stairs and creaky walls, you can hear people go up and down stairs, use the bath or toilet.
I would not recommend this place. Pay a little more for better places.

If the weather turns foul, you are stuck in a hostel type room

The Nashua House hotel is a fantastic hotel to select. After seeing the reviews here I decided to stay here for our stay over the Labor Day weekend and I was very pleased that I did. The hotel has 2 shared bathrooms for each floor but we never had any problem with waiting or cleanliness. We didn't have to wait and the bathrooms were very clean!! The staff is pleasant and very helpful. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel is one block away from Circuit Avenue so everything is very close.
I'd definitely stay here again!
