I stayed at the Nashua House last weekend and completely enjoyed the experience. My cousin and I arrived on the island very early so that we could get a full day of activities. I wasn't sure if we would be able to drop off our bags, change into swim suits etc. before checking in, but the girl at the desk was extremely helpful and let us use the bathrooms to change. Our bags were in the locked lobby and I felt completely comfortable leaving them there. The location of the hotel is awesome-you cut through a little courtyard and are on Circut Ave-in the heart of the buzz of Oak Bluffs. On the other side of the street is Ocean Park, which is as beautiful as it sounds. We checked out the Offshore Alehouse right next door for dinner, which is great for locally brewed beer and brick oven pizza. Some other guests had said that the location is loud but we didn't hear much over the sound of the AC. FYI-when we left on Sunday, there was a sign out front with a rate of $99! For a centrally located hotel in OB, this is a great rate!!! I wouldn't stay here if you have an issue with shared bathrooms or sheets that are washed every third day (to conserve water) but it is a nice, afforable hotel and I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at the Nashua House during the off season. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The shared bathrooms were clean and conveinently located. Since it was the off season --we had no problem using the facilities. The hotel looks exactly like its website indicated. It is in a great location. I suspect it may get a bit noisy during the on-season, since it is located across from a pub (Off-Shore Ale House -- which has good food and a nice atmosphere).

The owner was very helpful and pleasant -- he knows the island well and offers good recommendations.

Martha's Vineyard is great in the off-season. It is quiet. Restaurant and shopping is limited since much closes for the season, but what remains open is more than enough.

Check out Linda Jean's Restaurant for a great breakfast!

We stayed at the Nashua House just off season at the end of April. For the price, the place is great. You are in the middle of the small downtown, with the breakfast joint one block up and a great bar right across the street. We arrived late and picked up our key from the Ale House next door. Our room even overlooked the bar but we didn't have any problems. Shared bath was right next to us but we never really heard it. If you do MV right and bike/hike/drink/get tired, you shouldn't have a problem with noise. On season, that may be different. If you're feeling lucky, show up w/o a reservation, they had a cheap walk in price.

“By all means, Don't Stay Here”

We stayed here Father's Day weekend 2003 for four nights. Our first morning there was the only day our bed was made up. We were told we had to leave our bikes (Value for both $1200 locked to a bike rack in the public park). The rooms do not come with private bathrooms but we knew that when we checked in and it was not a problem until we checked out. We were allowed to leave our luggage, a duffle bag and two back packs) at the hotel after checking out in the morning. When we went back to get it, after spending our last day mulling about Oak Bluffs, wanted to use the shared bathrooms but were told we would have to check back in and pay for another nights stay. We were told they were not public restrooms, they were down the street. This after spending over $100/night for a room. I wish we had stayed at the Weslyan Hotel.

Management Response

We have a limited amount of bicycle parking on the Nashua House property itself, and there may have been no space available at that time. However, we now own another hotel, the Madison Inn, just up the street, and there we have ample room for bicycle storage for guests of both our hotels. Our guests at the Nashua House are always welcome to use our facilities later in the day after they have checked out. All our staff should have been well aware of this accomodation to our guests. Someone goofed; our apologies

Beautiful property/immaculate and very formal. No assistance with luggage up narrow steps/staff a bit on the "stiff" side and not a comfortablefeel to the place although it is exquisite. Neverhad that homey feeling and the bar across thestreet didn't help with the noise and bikers intothe late hours..Windows left open for ventilation.Excellent rate and good location for walkingdowntown Oak Bluffs.
