Owner description: Small waves, low dunes and lots of seashells make this narrow, two-mile stretch of public beach popular with families. The beach runs between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown, and is called "Bend-in-the-Road Beach" on the Edgartown side.

“Pleasantly surprised”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

I spent a week on Martha's Vineyard for 11 years during my 20s and never once went to this beach. I drove by it many times and assumed it wasn't a good beach because of all the parked cars lined up on the road. I was so pleasantly surprised at how much I love this beach now. When you are on the beach you forget about the road behind you. The water is calm and beautiful. There are minnows, crabs and other small fish to catch. The narrow shoreline means you have an unobstructed water view. And, at the Oak Bluffs end of the beach you can jump the bridge.

“It's the BEACH......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

During peak season you better get there before 11 to get any parking spot. Rocky bottom the closer you get to the jumping bridge. I needed some beach aqua shoes to walk on the rocks. Sandy bottoms more toward the life guard area. Bring a umbrella if you plan to stay a while. Stop and pick Up some sandwiches from one of the many sandwich shops around. Bring headphones cause when it's crowded you can drown out all the noisy people. LOVE the beach.

“Calm, clear water”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

I imagine this beach gets very crowded in season, but in September, it was perfect! The beach is long and sandy. Water was super clear and calm--and in early September still just warm enough for swimming. Easy parking. Slightly loud because it's very close to the main road, but it also means lugging stuff to the beach is a breeze.

“Long, spacious, and good fishing.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

State Beach is a great place to do all the beach/water activities you could ever imagine doing on MV.

The waves here are almost always mild, you can rent kayaks and go kite-boarding down by Little Bridge, and when the fishing is hot the albies and blues tear up the entire length of the beach and the night fishing for stripers off Big Bridge is outstanding.

Pack for the day, have a picnic and have fun!

“Moped to the Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

We rented mopeds and went around Martha's Vineyard and stopped by at this beach right next to the Jaws Bridge. The shoulder parking was very nice, since we could venture to the beach and still keep an eye on the mopeds. We flew kites and played frisbee and enjoyed the waters. It is a nice quiet beach and a nice way to unwind in the afternoon with a picnic lunch.
