Owner description: This Oak Bluffs beach and surrounding area of colorful gingerbread Victorian houses have strong links to African-American heritage on Martha's Vineyard, dating back to the Revolutionary War. The beach was the setting for a teenage romance movie called "The Inkwell."

“Coolest place on a hot day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

Hanging out at Inkwell Beach on a hot day is the coolest place to be! Walking distance from downtown Oak Bluffs, and the hot Russian guys on the beach were incredible!

“Great spot for those without transportation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

The inkwell is just a block from where I live in the summers and it is the most convenient, easy to get to beach in oak bluffs. It's great for those just over for the day, as no transportation is needed. It's very close to circuit avenue and all the bars and restaurants of ob. Very easy to just chill for a few hours before getting back on the ferry or heading off to work. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded and people sit fit on top of you, but so it goes with beaches in the summer.

“Good little Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

It's a sweet little beach close to OB. Very family friendly, great for small ones. There are no bathrooms and no services so come prepared to camp out.

“A great place to meet people and socialize”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

A small beach area good for socializing and short walks/runs. It's the traditional meeting place on the island for affluent African American families and others. Good to visit in July and August and in the morning. Every morning, the Polar Bears (a group of women and some men) meet here to do water aerobics. You can join them in the cold water but its' quite rocky so wear water shoes. Love hanging out here and the people are great!

“thin beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

The shoreline is close, which surprised me. It's great place to sit on a bench and watch the tide roll in.
