“Great place to stay on the Cape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

This was our first time staying on Cape Cod. We selected Horizons because of the price and location which has views of the Bay. Our cottage had a very good view of the Bay and was a few steps to the beach. We just came back from a 3 nights stays, September, 2013. The place was very clean, updated appliances, HD TV and cable in the living room and both bedrooms. What more could you want? The area is beautiful and quiet. Not sure what it's like in summer high season but my husband and I would definately come back here off season. The Top Mast Cafe is right down the road for breakfast which we found to be very convenient and delicioius. Even though we rented a cottage with appliances, we always eat out. The owner was very helpful as was the staff. To the person who complained about no shampoo being supplied or the fact that they had to be out of there by 10:00 a.m., for non-chain hotels, that is the norm. We did not expect any extras. They did provide soap, towels and ice buckets for ice. We travel alot and we thought this place was great for the price and excellent view from our cottage.

Stayed a few nites, September 2013, at the Terrace Dunes, third floor. No complaints. For the price, probably best at the outer cape.

Good view of the bay. Nice surroundings, gives the vibes of a quiet beach vacation. Room (2 double beds, efficiency, balcony) clean and comfy, spacious enough for 3, bathroom modern enough. Large fridge, 4 stove burners, enough pots and pans and other kitchen accessories to prep/cook meals with. Bring your basic kitchen food supplies though (salt, sugar, coffee, paper towels, etc.). (BTW, if you're driving in, you might want to make a stop at Market Basket (1 Factory Outlet Rd., Sagamore. We got one to 1.5 lb. lobsters for $5/lb. Sweetest lobsters ever).

Swimming pool overlooks the bay but frrrrigidly cold. There might have been too much chlorine in the pool water as I got red non-itchy bumps after a short swim (bumps disappeared after a few hours, so all good).

H.B. Resort beach and water full of seaweed. For beach walk or ocean swim, go to nearby Race Point beach; also Marconi Beach (20 min drive?). Ocean water in September 62 degree Fahrenheit. As the beach entrance post said, "comfortable." Cold (but refreshing) is more like it.

Not to miss - Long Nook Beach in Truro - stunning! Tall sand dunes, wiiiide beach, deep blue sea. But not for swimming - sharks have been sighted, rip current seemed usual, and I saw shark-food --- a fat seal bobbing up and down, watching the shore. Also, Pamet Harbour, for the sunset.

Horizons Beach Resort is around 10 minutes drive to Provincetown. In September, easy to find parking (also not expensive). Great for gallery walk-about - perhaps start in the east end, walk towards the center. Stop at the Provincetown art museum (free Fridays from 5 to 10 pm - check prior though), cross the street to the wonderful Julie Heller East (465 Commercial St.). Other superb stops - the library (check out the 2nd and third floors for the in-library boat) and The Packard gallery (418 Commercial St.). The 4 hour whale tour (Dolphin Fleet) produced no whale sighting (just one, momentarily, from afar) but lots of dolphins.

If my travel budget allows, I'll opt in the future for the beach front bungalows (semi). Two tiny bedrooms, open living-dining, cathedral ceiling, very cape cod feel and look. But book very early for this, as I've been told these bungalows are booked months (years?) in advance.

Thanks, Tom (the manager?). We had a good time.

Room Tip: If two share a double bed, and one is heavier than the other, bed sags a little, in the middle. No...

Spent 3 nights here for a destination wedding. On our last morning, Sunday the week after Labor Day, a knock on our door accompanied the manager/?owner's voice rudely informing us that departure was 10 a.m. (seriously 10 a.m.!) -- no excuses, no extension, no discussion. (Also no shampoo which is a pain if you have to fly and go through airport security to get to this place). Thanks, guys, for your "gracious" hospitality.

We have been coming here for years for our anniversary and its the only place we stay at for our vacation. I love Horizons. It's clean and quiet and the staff is always so nice. I have no complaints whatsoever.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We have been coming to Cape Cod for over 40 years. We often try and stay at different places and this year we opted for Horizons. There were 6 of us total including 2 small children so we rented out one of the cottages that they have. We made reservation is April and the only week they had was the last week of August.

The pros
1. Very clean place. The cleaning person came every morning and was very courteous and great with our small children.
2. Air conditioning in all bedrooms and main room. Need I say more??
3. Pristine pool. Very well kept, clean, and just beautiful to be swimming and hearing the waves from the bay.
4. Just a few blocks from 6A and a few blocks from a convenience store. The location is great as you dont ave to go all the way to P-Town to pick up small things and if you do, just hop on 6A and it goes 100 times faster.
5. Great view of P-Town

The Cons:
Not a lot of cons but here are a few
1. The cottage was not right on the beach. It was a very short walk to the beach but I was under the assumption that we would be directly on the beach.
2. The online pics are a bit misleading for the cottages. They are much smaller than we thought. One bedroom housed a bunkbed. My closet at home is bigger than the room that the bunk beds were in.
3. No wifi in the cottage that we were in. The place has wifi but our cottage was too far away from their router. The only way to get the internet was to move to a different part of the grounds or use your cell phone.
4. Beach has lots of sand. This is to be expected of any place in Truro.

We would likely stay here again but if we did decide to, we would need to book in January for a mid-July stay. Staying in the Cape at the end of August is colder (65-70 degrees), foggier, more cloudy, and not as many nice day (was overcast and cold for 5 of the 7 days that we were there)

Room Tip: Book early if you want to get into one of the cottages

This is the most awesome place to stay. Close enough to town but far enough to be quiet and pleasant. Easy to catch shuddle to town. Bay side beach great for a early morning walk. Close to Head of Meadows Beach for ocean side boogie boarding and sand bars! Owners are great and always helpful. We book our room every February and cannot wait until the end of August for our once a year trip to P-Town!

Room Tip: If you have children, the first floor beach side or across the street is great. If you are a couple...

We booked a room at Horizons to be closer to family members who were staying in a rented house. Horizons is a great, laid back hotel/motel with a really nice view of the bay. This is the kind of hotel/motel you come to for a relaxing non-pretentious vacation. We had a room on the 1st floor (next time I would request 2nd fl) (also all rooms face the beach) and when we were sitting on our little private deck, everyone who walked by was super friendly and engaged in conversation. Having the beach right outside your door makes for a great get-a-way.
No matter how you slice it, there's nothing like waking up and looking out your window to the view of the water. We also slept with the windows open, listening to the waves breaking all night long - a very soothing sound.
The only reason I didn't give Horizons a 5 star is due to the decor which probably could be updated a bit and the towels (as other reviewers have noted). That being said, the manager was great and I would definitely come back.
Helpful hint - bring your beach/bath towels and toiletries.

Room Tip: If you like privacy, request a 2nd fl room.
