“Honeymoon.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

We travelled to Meeru for our honeymoon September 23rd through to October 6th 2013.
So much to cover in one review so I will attempt to be concise.
When booking a holiday in the Maldives it is almost impossible to discern between resorts/islands and it becomes a guess, based on the fact that wherever you go the natural surroundings are bound to be exceptional.
Firstly the island it itself does not disappoint in any way, it is paradise. The beaches are amazing and the water is perfect. It is actually fairly large (you can walk round in 30 minutes) but is not ruined in any way by the resort and it's facilities. In the centre of the island there are various buildings all hidden under a tropical canopy so as too not feel out of place. The fruitbats, giant hermit crabs and stingrays are amazing. In fact the marine life is so interesting (especially when watching at night from the water jacuzzi villa terrace).
We stayed for 6 nights in a Beach jacuzzi villa and 7 nights in Water Jacuzzi villa.
Beach jacuzzi villa: Great size with a very nice rear patio garden area with hot tub. Completely enclosed and with outdoor bathhroom/loo, love that. Fittings are to a high standard, expecially the bathroom. Rooms are cleaned twice a day.
Water Jacuzzi villa: We were so excited about our first room we didn't think we could be shocked by this but truly YOU HAVE TO STAY IN ONE OF THESE. This is the experience that you will be picturing. Almost total seclusion if you want it, uninterrupted views of the ocean to the horizon, gorgeous terrace and a hot tub thrown in! The room is spacious and again to a very high standard. Stunning.
One of the best things about being here is that you do not want for anything. All the simple things are taken care of. UK plugs work, wifi is free, TV has loads of English channels, etc etc, everything is easy, exactly as it should be. But then they go further, extravagant bed decorations (petals and patterns in the sheets) as a bonus one day!
We booked to the North of the island where it is only over 18's and it did feel that much nicer, the bar at the North was always nice and quiet and exactly what we wanted. If you want to you can go down to one of the others but the main bar did have the trappings of your typical holiday, plenty of guests but most in a catatonic state staring at the entertainment which was fine but not why we came. Nice to be able to go but we stayed away most of the time. As well as the main bar and the northern most over 18 bar there were 2 others, both great and on a Tuesday they had a great acoustic 3 piece local band who were great. (Meeru keep them!).
Snorkeling is great and we only realised on our second week how a trip to the reef would open up a whole marine world. This is included in the all inclusive, free once a day, a 90 minute trip, do it, several times. Last time we finally found a turtle and swam with it for 20 minutes.
We didn't do too many trips, we were quite happy, but they do go daily if you want them.
Food is of the highest order, my (now) wife manges a restaurant in London and has high standards. We were not diappointed.
Plenty to do as well, somehow a small golf course, driving range, foorball pitch, tennis courts etc etc is all here but it never feels crowded.
Transfer is fine if a bit mental. 1 hour on a very fast boat.
Staff are exceptional.
Rooms are exceptional.
Island is exceptional.
To conclude our honeymoon was perfect. I can recommend this island wholeheartedly without reservation.
Tips - Split the visit between rooms like we did if there for over a week. Beach Jacuzzi villa is very nice, but Water Jacuzzi Villa is what you imagine staying in and does live up to your imagination.
All inclusive is essential, so amazing not too worry about cost. We definately got our moneys worth. All basic drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) plus a few cocktails etc, great food, including snacks.

If you are struggling to decide between Islnds I can say that Meeru will not disappoint. It is exceptional. Like us you can keep to yourself but when you want to you can take advantage of the excellent facilities. A perfect honeymoon.

Meeru is definitely the most beautiful resort I've ever stayed at. My husband and I wrapped up our honeymoon here, staying in a water bungalow with a private jacuzzi. That was definitely worth it - being able to walk down our back steps into the ocean was amazing! It was private, romantic, clean, and there are beautiful views in every direction. We did the all-inclusive plus package, which is definitely worth it if you drink alcohol and plan to eat a lot (which we did). The included activities were great - tennis, driving range, windsurfing, badminton, evening sunset cruise - and we even saw jumping dolphins all around us from the sunset cruise. It was magical. Although the setting was incredible and the staff were helpful, there were several flaws in the execution. First, they had an incorrect reservation for us and thought we were leaving a day earlier than we were. Second, they told us we couldn't do the all-inclusive package because we weren't staying the minimum number of days (even though we had an email from them confirming that we could do the all-inclusive). Also, they were over-booked and tried to convince us to stay in a less-nice neighboring resort for a night (we declined). They mis-charged our minibar use, which we had to fight to get removed, but then it appeared again on our bill at the end of the trip (we had to fight it again). Finally, we booked our return boat trip a day in advance but they had no record of it on the day of departure. In the end, everything worked out and they were amenable, but there were several headaches along the way that we had to deal with, and after the 4th one, it was tiresome. All in all, it's a gorgeous spot on a removed, secluded island and I'd recommend it. Just be sure you have everything confirmed in advance and that you keep a close eye on your tab.

After a lot of searching on TripAdvisor, me and my wife zeroed down on this for our honeymoon and let me tell you, it was worth every penny spent. We booked for a 4 nights 5 days stay in a beach villa and on arrival, we got the best hut on the island (418). With an awesome view and the best snorkeling point just outside the door, it was the best time we could have asked for. The food was good, awesome breakfast, nice wine and good good options when you go all-inclusive (highly recommended). The weather was perfect, with occasional short bursts of thunderstorms (lasting not more than an hour or two). A perfect vacation and a perfect resort. Will definitely return soon. :)

Room Tip: Try for beach villas on the other side of the island. 418 was the best for me at the corner.

Just returned from 11 night's 6th -17th Oct when we arrived we were told our room was not available and we were down graded to a Garden room very clean but not the Maldivian experience it was more like a trip to Ikea they gave us $80 refund and an $85 Asian Wok voucher for our trouble's Next day we were moved to Jacuzzi beach villa 621 i must say very nice room with out door shower but i'm sorry but how can they say it's a beach villa you couldn't even see the beach but after a short walk to the beach on the East side (sun rise) we noticed a lot of rubbish washed up bottles a half eaten fruit and sea weed this was there every day i'm sorry it doesn't take much to get a couple of workers to clean it up. All our meals were eaten in the Maalen Restaurant our waiter Faz was fantastic always got a smile but the food choice was a bit poor for a 4 Star Island .
The best side of the island is the west side (sunset side) nice clean beach and calm sea's this is where we spent most of our day's by the Hot Rock's cafe and pool . I did 5 dives at a cost of $70 a dive OMG i'm sorry i know they have to make money but how can they justifie $70 for one dive and in my view not the best dive sights i have visited in the Maldives. The dive center was clean and well organised i was given a basket to use for my stay. i can't comment on the quality of the center equipment as i had taken my own the dive sight's are OK but most of the coral is dead and not what you want to see in the Maldives all i can say is if your going to dive the Maldives do you research first as some islands are much better then others.
This is not my first trip to the Maldives we have stayed at Kuredu and Veligandu both all under the same ownership as Meeru
I know when some read this review will think it's a bit harsh but when you spend close on £6000 for 11 night's you expect a bit more.......I am happy to answer any questions you have

Room Tip: Any room's on the sunset side .........better beach and calmer sea's

We stayed at meeru at the end of our honeymoon for 10 days. We flew in from dubai and waited around 20mins for the boat transfer. I was expecting a rough journey so already took an anti sickness tablet in preparation but actually it was a smooth ride, we saw dolphins on the way and the boat stopped so we could all see and take photo's and we were given a bottle of water.

On arrival the island is just how I imagine, white sand, blue skies, crystal clear water and palm trees galore. We were shown into reception and given a cocktail and towel and were booked in quite quickly. The island was overbooked so we were offered a cruise or a few nights on a different island with a free meal in the Asian wok. We declined and were given our jacuzzi beach villa 627 (previously emailed the hotel to request villa in 600's as recommended by other trip advisors). We did meet a few people who were told there room was not available for the first night so downgraded to a garden room but we also met some people who were upgraded!

The room was perfect, we never used the jacuzzi so a beach villa be have been fine. The outside bathroom takes getting use to but actually towards the end I quite enjoyed showering at night under the stars! Ali our room boy kept our room spotless and mini bar topped up!

Hussain our waiter was great company during our 10 day stay, and was an excellent waiter. The food exceeded our expectations and we didn't feel the need to eat at the other resturants. My husband enjoyed the tiger beer on tap and I enjoyed the all inclusive cocktails and iced coffee with a shot of rum in!

The pool area and infinity pool was lovely, the waiters brought you drinks whether you were in the pool, jacuzzi or sun beds(keep tipping and they will keep coming to you!)

We enjoyed snorkelling around the island but doing the free house reef trip which is twice a day is better. We saw sharks, sting rays, sea turtles and tons of fish! Tip take beach shoes, rash vests and your own snorkle, mask and flippers. It cost 9 dollars a day each to hire and it's very expensive to buy on the island 49 dollars just for a mask and snorkle!

There were some building work being done on the island but it didn't effect us at all, the weather was excellent and we only had some rain which lasted 30mins! We saw 1 rat but it was dead.

We found the service excellent, I needed to send an urgent fax to the uk and reception were brilliant so many thanks to cherry and your work colleague who helped me out!

We had an amazing time and couldn't recommend the island enough, so thank you meeru for such wonderful memories!

Me and my wife went to Meeru in March 2013 for our second honeymoon and it didn't fail to deliver. I read extensively on trip advisor before hand and was ready to freak out when we received a room in the 300's because everyone said you have to get on in the 700's and even numbers. But let me tell you we received room 301 of the Jacuzzi Water Villas and it was amazing. The water the beach... just everything was amazing. The staff the food. I can not begin to tell someone what that Island is like. To have to go on deserted Island morning it is something else. After my ranting and raving on arrival about the 300's we got moved to 710 after 2 night and it was magnificent with the sunsets and everything else So here is the issue I then loved the 300s and my Wife the 700's serves me right...lol. The restaurant for the 700 has a awesome view compared to the 300 but other than that I you get to Merru relax and remember your are there for a reason. My only downside is that the all inclusive package cocktails are sub par but then I am nit picking.

We arrived at Meeru on 6th October 2013 and stayed for 9 nights. We were a bit apprehensive as we had stayed at a different resort in the Maldives a few years ago at the same time of year and it rained continuously. Fortunately the weather was much better this time, as we had sun every day apart from 1. The showers were mainly during the night.

We flew with Emirates from Manchester, transferring at Dubai and we couldn't fault them at all.

The boat transfer from the airport to the island was better than expected and much improved by the dolphins we saw on the way. They slowed the boat right down so we could make the most of seeing them, which we were very grateful for.
We were greeted with cold towels & cocktails at check-in, which was very straightforward, as we didn't have to queue and the Kuoni rep took care of everything.

We were able to go to our jacuzzi beach villa straightaway, and were very impressed with it. It was very big & tastefully furnished. There is a private enclosed back garden with sun loungers, a shaded area and a large jacuzzi. We made good use of this, as it was nice to be able to have everything to hand whilst sunbathing.

The island is absolutely beautiful, with a perfect beach and clear blue sea. You can't help but relax here. We enjoyed seeing all of the wildlife, including the lizards & different types of crabs. We did the snorkelling trip, which was good, but felt that after we had done it once that was enough. We did snorkel along various parts of the island on other days and saw plenty of different fish, as well as a shark & stingray. It is quite patchy though.

We did the sunset punch cruise where we saw more dolphins, which was a treat. The staff on the boat seem to go out of their way to find them and to stay with them for as long as possible. We enjoyed the other facilities which are included in the AI package. We kayaked around the island and tried the golf driving range. There was always something to do if you wanted to.

We loved the pavillion pool, which is an adults only infinity pool overlooking the beach. It is in a great spot and lovely to be able to look out to sea from the pool.

The buffet offered plenty of choice and we were always able to find things we liked. The desserts are impressive, the breakfasts were fantastic and the iced coffees at the bars were superb.

We enjoyed Uthuru & Dhoni bar the most in the evenings, and the drinks, setting and service there were very good.

We were celebrating our first wedding anniversary whilst we were there and they surprised us with a fruit plate and a card, and they had decorated the room, which was a lovely touch and made our day even more special. We ate at the Hot Rock restaurant that evening, which is a small restaurant and the food was very good. We enjoyed the experience a lot and would recommend it, and it made a nice change from the buffet.

I had emailed ahead to arrange for a bottle of champagne to be delivered to our room that evening to surprise my husband when we returned from dinner. The resort had a note of this as they had asked me at reception what time to deliver it, but sadly this was overlooked. I went to reception to resolve it, however it spoilt the surprise a little bit.

We had a his & hers massage at the overwater spa, which was excellent- they also added our free 15 minute massage on to the end of this to extend the treatment time. It was fantastic and the ladies at the spa were great. Sadly we hardly saw any fish, but the massage more than made up for it!

We felt the all inclusive was very good, offering a good variety of food and drink and facilities, with very few restrictions. Most of the drinks in the mini bar were included, which we made good use of. We would definitely recommend the all inclusive and felt it offered good value for money.

Our room boy, Ali, was very helpful and did a great job.

Overall we enjoyed the holiday very much and would definitely recommend it. We were both very sad to leave and wished we could have stayed longer.
