5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

Wasnt sure what to expect, but I was nicely surprised, this place is way more like a boutique hotel than a B&B. great facilties - sauna, heated pool, hot tub seem to be open any time. plus a really great breakfast.

This is the perfect place to stay while visiting Mass MOCA (and why else would anyone be in North Adams?). The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious, and there are nice amenities. Two problems to be noted: (1) the lighting in the rooms is not very good and they can therefore be pretty dark; and (2) the floorboards creak, so if you are staying below someone else, you will hear every step they take. The latter can be pretty noisy and interfere with sleep.

Room Tip: Make sure you are on the top floor if you do not want to hear people walking in their rooms above yo...

Spent a night with my daughters at the Porches Inn, got a great off season deal (March) and really enjoyed ourselves. From the pool and hot tub, to the yummy breakfast, to the friendly front desk staff, it was a great place to stay, and it's a very short walk to Mass MoCA.

I would recommended requesting a room on the 2nd floor, if you're sensitive to overhead creaking/noise from other guests staying above you. We did switch rooms because the guests in the room above us were constantly walking and moving around and even moving chairs - it was pretty loud and distracting. But the front desk graciously accommodated our request to move, and because it was off-season, we had no problem doing so.

The rooms are very charming and nicely decorated, and if you like taking a nice bath, you're in for a treat.

I would gladly go back.

Room Tip: Stay on the 2nd floor for less noise.

LOVED:
Outdoor pool/hot tub!
Breakfast! (they even had gluten free items! yeah!)
Gathering room had a cash bar and a fireplace
Architecture - very clever re-purposing
Location to MassMoca
Crisp white Italian linens!
Attentive and wonderful staff!

Need to remember:
When traveling as a non couple NOT to get the one bedroom suite - the pull out sofa just is never a good idea! Luckily they have lovely two queen bed rooms or a two bedroom suite!

This is a charming and lovely property. THE best place to stay when your taking a trip to Mass MoCa. Staff is friendly, the rooms are shabby chic in the best possible way. The outdoor pool(open year round) and steam/sauna is fantastic. The hospitality here is thoughtful, "Would you like some popcorn with your dvd?" "Fancy a cocktail before you depart to dinner?" and of course there is that lovely and charming kitty cat prancing around, Sabine.
Breakfast was one of the best I had at an Inn.

Smack dab in the middle of the Berkshires in "The City of Steeples" is The Porches Inn, several former workmens' cottages charmingly reimagined as high end lodgings for a wonderfully diverse group of travelers. The beds are super comfy, the furnishings funky and casual, the art is cleverly chosen to reflect the history of the area. Staff is cheerful and helpful, mostly younger and enthusiastic. There's a roaring wood fire in the lobby area with squashy leather chairs to relax into while you read your free Boston Globe, NYTimes, Berkshire Eagle or Albany Times-Union. Want a beer, wine or mixed drink while you watch the fire? Just ask, it's done. Sabine the calico kitty will hang out with you, maybe allow you to pet her lovely soft furry tummy or maybe not - hey! She's a cat.
Really a wonderful place to stay while visiting the area - or just cocoon at the hotel. The pool is heated year 'round, the hot tub awaits,The breakfast is good, the crowd is friendly. It's pretty swell, go enjoy yourself.

Room Tip: The rooms in the front are one bedroom suites and face the street. Just close the french doors that...

My husband and I loved this Inn. The location is great, right across from the Mass MOCA and within walking distance from some great restaurants. The staff were friendly, helpful and funny. The room was clean and charming (they describe the decor as "Granny Chic"!). We loved the extras: a daily newsletter with local events, a bottle of wine with corkscrew, a DVD player and a good selection of DVDs (they even popped popcorn for us!). The fireplace was always burning, there were fresh cookies available daily and a reading/game area in the main building. The pool, sauna and hot tub were open 24 hours and heated for winter use. My only complaint was that since we were on the ground floor, right across from the pool (a high traffic area) we had the keep the blinds closed and the room felt a bit dark. Otherwise this is a very cool place in a funky little town.
