“A nice discovery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

Actually, Brine was recommended to us by a resident of Newburyport. We were visiting from France and accompanied our son to Newburyport while he made a customer call. It's a delightful little place. We shared a dozen oysters, a nice variety from area producers, and my wife had a delicious pumpkin soup. The service was friendly and efficient, we ate outside, and the selection of open white wines was quite pleasant. A nice place to be introduced toNew England modern cuisine. Whitebeard83

“"Best Kept Secret" not for long!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

We've been to Brine half a dozen times and it's always been consistently wonderful but our most recent visit was the best, by far...food and service. It's new dining concept includes light fare, small portions, and/or full-size entrees, allowing people to create either an "experience" by making an evening out of it or grab something tasty and light with a glass of wine and get on with their night. Our experience lasted 3 hours! We began with a dozen oysters and later order another half dozen. Then, we ordered 2 krudo dishes - halibut and tuna, served raw with dollops of creamed sauces and accented with vegetables. Both beautifully presented and fresh as can be. Next, we ordered beef tartar which was some of the best we've had and served almost pate-style. Last, we split the scallop entrée which was absolutely outstanding, served sauteed with gnocci. Our server, Alana, was knowledgeable about the menu, attentive and friendly. We'll request her all of the time. After hearing how pleased we were with our meal, she sent Corey, the chef out to speak with us. What a guy! Corey talked with us for nearly half an hour about the menu, his background and love of food and even gave us some pointers for cooking at home. For now, Brine is the best kept secret but won't be for long!

“Great cocktails, yummy small plates”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

We were looking for a cocktail and and some light dishes before starting our shopping expedition and Brine was the perfect spot. Friendly, helpful service along with killer cocktails and tasty food made it a great start to the day. Although there were several options on the menu that looked appealing, we shared the cockle clams and prime beef tagliatta. I especially liked the cockle clam dish.

The interior is bright and clean and while we sat a high-top table, the bar looked inviting as well. I would definitely return to sample some of their other offerings.

My partner and I had oyster sup which was quite god although the oysters were a bit chewy. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy.

“Excellent Food, Off-Putting Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

We stopped in Saturday mid-afternoon for a beer and light meal. They were setting tables up for dinner and we were seated a long time before anyone came to take our order. The waiter also had a bit of attitude, but we ignored that and ordered a beer (excellent selection), an oyster po'boy on baguette (awesome) and the crispy cod (very fresh but preparation just OK).

Small place, upscale ambience, with limited but very diverse menu. They need to be a bit more attentive to make this place a success.
