“Very pleasant stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2011

My husband and I stayed in one of the two suites at the Berkshires-Shirakaba Guest House. There was more than ample room to spread out, with two rooms, private bath, and a little terrace looking out over a beautifully planted garden The bed was exceptionally comforable. Tea, fruit, and wonderful Japanese cookies were always available. We both enjoyed our American and Japanese breakfasts. Our hosts could not have been more friendly or helpful. This is a good spot from which to explore Williamstown and environs.

We stayed with Berkshires Shirakaba during the 2011 Solid Sound Festival. The house is very cool, nicely designed, and has lots of amenities (hot tub, swimming pool, private bathroom with large shower and Japanese toilet, Japanese snacks and sake). The king-sized bed with a tempurpedic mattress was great to try. It's very convenient to Mass MOCA, about 15min drive.

Only complaint would be that there were a lot of extras that we didn't really want (totebags, baseball caps, water bottles), to the point where we wondered if the room would have been cheaper without them. The hosts are pleasant and gracious and veeeerrryy eager to please...a little too much so in our opinion, but we were really there for the concerts and not as much for the pampering/couples/B&B experience.

All in all, it was fun and comfortable and we'd recommend it.

Thank you. I am sorry that you felt I was too eager to please you. That is what we aim for here at Shirakaba pampered service. I will now check with guests to make sure I am not intruding.

My fiancée and I had an amazing time at the Shirakaba Guest House. The gazebo was one of the most gorgeous overlooks in Berkshire County. We were so welcomed and amazed by the beauty of the setting. The building is both modern and comfortable. The cooking lesson we received was so much fun. The authentic Japanese experience was the most wonderful part - it's as close to Japan as you can get without getting on a plane. And it's only 20 minutes from PIttsfield. We would recommend Shirakaba to anyone looking for a b&b with a Japanese flavor. Five stars.

We spent two days at Shirakaba, while celebrating a birthay. Louise was enthusiastic about making the stay special, and upon arrival we were greeted with birthday decorations at the front entrance and throughout the house.

We stayed in the Matsu No Ma room. The Temperpedic bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom had a nice two-head shower and hi-tech toilet. Toiletries included Louise's handmade soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and mouthwath. There was also a water heater with tea bags, a microwave with popcorn, and other Japanese snacks in the room. The large screen TV and Blueray DVD player in the room provided a relaxing way to watch one of the many DVD's in their collection. Nice view of the back of the property from the bedroom sliding glass door.

We had an American breakfast one day, Japanese breakfast the second day, and also ate dinner at Shirakaba. Meals were extensive, and delicious. Louise even packaged up our leftover sticky buns from breakfast, and birthday dessert (brownies) to enjoy while we were out and about for the day. We chose to have our meals in the tatami mat room with the low table. The Matsu No Ma room also had a separate tatami mat room, where we enjoyed our dinner appetizer. I highly recommend the vegetarian option for dinner.

There is an indoor swimming pool and hot tub which we also enjoyed.

The entire house and property are very attractive, and we found the hosts passionate about making our stay perfect. Louise asked ahead about our heights so she could set out the right length yukata robes, and about our preferences with food and drinks so she could have exactly what we liked on hand.

We stayed for 2 nights at Shirakaba over Christmas break. Louise and Sadao were the most amazing hosts! We felt like we were with family. Louise and Sadoa anticipated our every need and with 3 little ones that was so appreciated. The shuttles back and forth to the mountain made the ski trip so much easier. The room was spacious, clean and had every modern comfort. We had wonderful breakfasts and a memorable dinner. Sadao’s egg custard soup is my new favorite soup and Louise’s homebaked sweet rolls were also so yummy. We all can’t wait to go back! I really cannot say enough good things.

Thank you. We love to exceed your expectations!
We follow guest suggestions and are always adding to the "supplies" in your suite.
We now have cotton pads, dental floss picks, and more guest friendly items such as hooks up in the showers for wet bathing suits, and on the backs of doors.
The shuttle service to Jiminy works well to avoid you having to park and wait for the trolly.

Two families, four kids ages 8-13, two breakfasts, one special Japanese dinner, New Year's Eve, plenty of "special requests" from young and old alike, shuttling back and forth to Jiminy, all handled with such grace that we felt right at home ... only much more comfortable and pampered.

Thank you.We really enjoyed meeting your extended family.
It was a pleasure to take care of everyone and get all of you back and forth to Jiminy!
It works out so well for larger families here since we only have the two suites and you have Shirakaba and us all to yourselves!

my stay at Shirakaba was a wonderful experience. My hosts were so gracious and made me feel at home although in a very exotic environment. The food was delicious and meticulously prepared. Shirakaba is located in a beautiful setting. I had a lovely walk in the snow out to the gazebo and my morning swims were a great way to start the day. .What a wonderful way to spend Christmas!

Thank you.We really enjoyed meeting you! Shirakaba is often a retreat for one. We are on avery quiet hilltop and even provide a sound machine for guests who say it's too quiet! It was nice to meet more of your family this past summer when you came for dinner.
