“Rock solid dining experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

My wife and I have dined at Sel de la Terre several times, but this was a business dinner - two of us locals and our two hosts from WI and SC. We were startled at how empty the restaurant was mid-evening on an August Wednesday - hopefully it's just the late summer shopper doldrums.

The cocktails are classic enough, the wine list more than adequate, and the menu, while limited in scope as others have observed, is more than ample so as to be able to find something delicious and creative. One Halibut, one Bouilabase, and two Rib-eyes later, we were more than satisfied. Starters included a special order caprese salad with local fresh heirloom tomatoes, a regular dinner salad, and a tomato bisque soup (as good as I've had anywhere). We ordered coffee but skipped dessert, but the staff was kind enough to treat us to a cookie platter anyway.

Service was crisp, friendly, and very professional. Ignore the fact that S de la T is mall-based. It's easy to access, either through mall valet parking at the door, or garage parking - come right up the escalator and you'll be right at the restaurant's front door. Hint - my wife and I love dining at the bar - usually plenty of action, good service, and still a creative and flexible menu. We need to come more often!

“Perfect date night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

What a treat! Don't let the fact that it's in a mall fool you. This place is phenomenal. We went to Top of the Hub for our last date night and we both agreed that the food was better here. We started with the Roasted shallots and garlic confit on bread which was delicious the garlic smeared on the bread like butter. My husband had the Grilled calamari with a warm white bean and arugula salad for his first course and would not stop talking about how phenomenal it was I had the ASF mixed greens with shaved prosciutto, comte, balsamic shallots, almonds and olive oil again DELICIOUS. I will be toasting almonds for all of my salads from this point forward. For the main course Hubs had the special which was a scallops dish and I had the Herb roasted halibut with chickpea puree, sauteed cherry peppers, and Tasso ham braised greens both cooked to perfection. We topped it off with a bottle of wine and desserts: Chocolate gateau with lavender macerated raspberries and graham cracker crust and Lime bread pudding with brulee banana and yuzu crème anglaise. Looking forward to eating there again VERY SOON!

“Fine place, take money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

Sel de la Terre is a fine high-end restaurant at the Natick Mall serving mainly southern French (Provençal) food. We've had very good experiences more than once with both the food and wine there, and the servers were friendly and helpful. It is a little expensive, so we recommend it as a couples or date venue for special occasions. Private rooms are available by special arrangement.

If you're into trying new combinations, the wine-food pairings on Tuesdays are definitely worth it.

“Wine dinners a bargain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

We went to Sel de la Terre's Tuesday night wine pairing, a regular event where the sommelier discusses various wines that are served with a four-course dinner. At $45 per person, with generous pourings and a delicious menu, this was a fun evening at a great price. The food was very tasty, and the service friendly and attentive. Although we thought everyone would be served family style at one large table, in fact each party was seated at their own table in a separate room, which was preferable to us.

“Uninspired”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Very limited menu -- steak, salmon, etc. I had the steak and it was OK, but nothing you couldn't do yourself at home. Served with fries, which were over-seasoned with rosemary; our table left most of that uneaten. Spinach with parmesan was lightly sautéed in olive oil and served with cheese -- again, something a beginning cook could do at home.

With drinks and tip, tab for 5 people came to just under $300 (none of us had dessert). I'm not going back again.
