It was raining and so my friend and I decided since we have heard so much about Joe's had seen those huge looking pots filled with luscious crabs, clams and other southern favorites such as andui (sp) sausage etc. What could be better than a good old fashioned southern style crab boil. Ooops, did I say Southern style and old fashioned? Upon arrival we were greeted by a very cheery hostess and introduced to our server who was indeed cheery and truly believed that this was the real deal. well, shock time, open the menu--$$$$$$!! Our server explained "we sell only the freshest sea food and that is expensive." Ooooook, so lets try some of that over the top full pot seafood boil. $26.00 for four legs of two types of crabs, two small red potatoes, one sausage, some peel and eat shrimp and an ear of corn on the cob all served in a pot with a bag that was steamed separately and then cut opened and place in the pot. Over the top, brimming with seafood like the photos? No and no!! 1 appetizer, 1 soft drink, one mixed drink and two pots. Total bill including gratuity, $94.00. Yep, you read it right, top dollar for hat I would not even classify as mediocre food. Dust the tops with crab boil (old bay) and then when served pour over the top of the boil from a Corona bottle complete with lime some butter concoction and wha la!!!! Bottom line, two people came in after us and reviewed the menu and got up and left as they mutter, "You're kidding right?" Stay away, if you go in with a smile you make leave being the crab. Service was nothing short of great, food was nothing short of disappointing. Folks, we live in New England and have access to the greatest freshest seafood around. This is not only disappointing but downright ridiculous and way over priced. Be the happy clam and go to Gloucester, Essex, Ipswich and Boston where the prices are better or if a little more you get what you pay for, great tasting piled high fresh sea food at it's very best. To sum it all up, overpriced, loud atmosphere, cold food and if a picture is worth a thousand words then whoever took these pictures must have used a type of photo shop. Stay clear of Joe's Crab Shack or you will go home be the crab!!
