“Shuttle service is very inefficient”

Hyatt Place Medford

Mar 28, 2008

Staying here on a college shopping visit to see Tufts and BU. The hotel is modern and well furnished. The big problem is it promises a shuttle service to the nearby T stops and Tufts but it took so long to actually get the shuttle from the hotel that we almost missed our appointment at Tufts. It wasn't until I complained to the manager that we and a couple other guests had been waiting to leave the hotel for 40 minutes for the quick ride to Tufts that a second shuttle was activated. What's worse is that we called the shuttle for a pick-up in nearby Davis Square and we're told it would be 12-15 minutes for it to show up. Another 40 minutes later we ended up taking a cab. From our experience the shuttle service just does not work well. If your decision to stay at this otherwise OK hotel is based on the convenience of the shuttle to the T stations and Tufts, choose another hotel.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and we were very pleased. We had stayed at this same hotel when it was Amerisuites, the change over was needed, LOVED the plasma wide screen TV, nice upgrade. Nice comfy bed and free wi fi, close to Boston and right off I-93, only complaint was the free access to computers in the business center. There was no door to this room and I found it hard to get on line as people that clearly were not staying at this hotel were using the computers (walked in off the street). They need to have key access only for Hyatt guests. The free underground parking garage was nice. We plan to book here again for our next trip to Boston.

“Great hotel”

We enjoyed our weekend stay at the Hyatt Place in Medford Mass. The newly redecorated suite was huge with a 40 or 50 inch flat screen high def. TV. The weekend rates are low for a hotel this close to downtown Boston. And the included breakfast was nice. The only negative is the traffic noise but it's not loud. Rooms with a low number are more distant from I 93.

“Great Hotel”

Hyatt Place Medford

Jan 2, 2008

We got a great rate on hotwire (3 star-medford/somerville) and the hotel was awesome. Super nice staff, large beautiful rooms, 42 inch flat screen HD TV, sectional sofa, fridge, etc....

We stayed there for a night out in Boston. They have free parking and a free shuttle to the T until 9PM. We took a cab back for $25 from downtown. It was much cheaper than the downtown hotels where you have to pay high rates + $40 bucks a day for parking.

“More geared for business/visits”

We booked the Hyatt Place in Medford (formerly Amerisuites) because we were visiting relatives for the holidays and it was less than 2 miles from their house.

Upon checking in, we had requested a non-smoking room, but the room they gave us reeked of cigarette smoke. We didn't have time to change rooms that minute because we were meeting people for dinner, but when we got back around 10:30pm, the staff gave us a new room in less than 5 minutes. That's what I call service.

This hotel has a very modern look to it from the lobby to the dishes they serve food on. The hotel room is what a college dorm room of the future would look like. The king-size bed was comfortable and had plenty of pillows. The toilet and shower are in a separate room next to the sink and dresser with plenty of towels. The closet is a little small, but there is also a living room type area (it is a suite after all) with a large couch, large leather ottoman, and night stand with an extra blanket tucked away. There is also a mini fridge, second sink (something of a wetbar) and mini coffee-maker. And the coup-de-gras, a 42 in. flat panel TV mounted to the wall with a swivel mount. It also has a connection panel to hook up other electronic devices like a laptop, camcorder, digital camera, etc. You also get a complimentary newspaper every morning.

The hotel offers front, back, and underground parking. I recommend the underground during the cold seasons because it has automatic garage doors, heating, ventilation, and elevator access to the hotel right in the middle of the lot.

The hotel lobby is well laid out with plenty of seating. Right in front there is a small snack bar, a regular bar, and to the right is a continental breakfast/self-service kitchen area. The self-service kitchen uses a touch screen to order your snacks/meals which you can charge to a credit card or your room. There is no room service but the
self-serve kitchen is open 24 hours a day.

Continental breakfast was ok. They serve muffins, toast, english muffins, milk, juice, cereal, coffee, tea, and fruit (omlettes are available for an extra price). By the time we got down there (around 8:30am), there was only toast and english muffins left and it was a bit crowded, so go early for the good stuff.

We did get an AMAZING deal through Priceline, but otherwise this hotel
is pretty pricey. If you can get a good deal, definitely book the Hyatt Place in Medford, MA.
