“Summer Flavor Dreams”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

Erikson's has been around for 75 years and you will understand why wehn you taste the creamy, cold, flavorful confections. Erikson's means summer to everyone in a fifty mile radius of the place.

“AMAZING ice cream! Family-owned, 75 years.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

Once in awhile I think, oh there are lots of places to get good ice cream. Then I return to Erikson's and remember how very special it is. A couple of my favorite flavors are Graham Central Station--a graham-cracker ice cream with chocolate-covered crunchy honey combs, and Freedom of Espresso--coffee ice cream with chocolate-covered espresso beans and chocolate chunks. Mid-to-late summer you can get peach ice cream made with local peaches. Other unusual flavors are Dark and Stormy, based on the rum and ginger flavors of the island drink of the same name, Peppermint Mulch with chunks of chocolate mints and shreds of peppermint candy canes, and Almond Joy--coconut ice cream with chocolate and almond pieces.
The teen staff are helpful, patient, and expert at mashing quite a lot of ice cream into the hand packed quarts or pints.

I hear they offer food outside of ice cream, but the reason to go is unquestionably the ice cream. Seating available at picnic tables behind the ice cream stand in a shaded grove.
Erikson's is on route 117, right at the Maynard/Stow line, 15 minutes east of Route 495, about 10 minutes west of Concord.

The stand opens in late April but closes far too early, in mid-September. Summer hours til 9 PM. Spring and Fall til 8 PM.

“Best Ice Cream West of Boston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Erikson’s Ice Cream is rich and the flavors imaginative. With 51 Favors of ice cream, plus specials, frozen yogurts, no-fat frozen yogurts, sherbets, and sorbets, and Frappes, milk shakes and ice cream sodas, the only problem with Erikson’s is deciding on what to order. My favorites are Ginger, Coconut, Peppermint Stick, and Pumpkin. Among the interesting offerings are: Avalanche (vanilla ice cream with caramel swirl and caramel truffles), Caramel Macchiato, Coffee Raspberry Truffle (coffee ice cream, raspberry swirl and raspberry truffles), Purple Cow (black raspberry ice cream with white & dark chocolate), and Rum Butter Toffee.

FREE doggie ice cream (served with a dog biscuit on top) makes Erikson’s a dog heaven, and about half the cars have dogs enjoying their treats along with their owners.

Cars surround the stand in a fan shape, looking like a 1950’s drive-in movie. You will see vintage cars, sports cars, and convertibles among the regular cars and motorcycles.

While the lot can be filled, and the lines look long, with 6-8 windows with 8-10 servers (extras make frappes, milk shakes, ice cream floats, etc.) they move quickly. The kids working here are always friendly and cheerful, despite the pace they are working at.

Erikson’s in located at 12 Great Road (Rt. 117) in Maynard, at the Stow town-line. We drive 20-30 minutes to get to Erikson’s, but can’t make the trip often enough. In June/July the wonderful aroma of bittersweet fills the air.
