“On Golden Pond”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2008

We were looking on line for a pet friendly B&B on Cape Cod. The web site for the Alexander Hamilton House caught our attention and we called to get more information. As it turned out, everything that we were told was understated.

The B&B is a charming Victorian Home that looks like it has been there for a long time but actually is only a few years old. The home is framed by landscape and flowers which add to the Cape Cod charm of the home. The accomodations are in a seperate wing with their own private entrance. The room was very large and had a sitting area, fireplace, large jetted tub and a breakfast area. The adjoining bathroom was also good sized and had a walk in shower. The Victorian decor was lovely and in good taste. There was also a large loft adjacent to the room. The owner has over 30 years of experience in B&Bs and it showed because no detail was overlooked to make your stay pleasant.

There is a path that leads to private frontage on a crystal clear lake. Comfortable seating is provided and there are a number of small boats for use by guests. The setting reminded us of "On Golden Pond."

The owners are very nice and we spent a lot of time with them. They also did some special things like inviting us for wine and cheese on their deck. They are always there if you want them but they will allow you all the privacy that you want.

This B&B is well suited for people that want a more personal experience. It is located in a quiet area but the stores, restaurants and ocean beaches are only a 10 to 15 minute drive.

The Carriage Suite with its “Cape Cod” atmosphere, king size bed, fireplace and view from my room gave me a claming relaxed feeling. The “Continental Breakfast” was more then enough. I also like the binder that’s in the room filled with places of interest and restaurants. If you can’t find what you are looking for in the binder Barbara and Steve are more then happy to make recommendations/or suggestions.

The area is beautiful! You follow a well marked path through the woods to the beach giving you this panoramic view of Ashumet Pond. The Pond is fantastic! Did some sailing with Steve and Kayaking while at the B&B.

The last day at the house I took a walk around the bird sanctuary. I’m looking forward to my next visit to Cape Cod and staying at the Alexander Hamilton House.

Great Place! We booked our trip last minute - it is very hard to find a nice place on the cape that was high end and would allow my cat and didn't have minimum stays.

The innkeeper, barbara and her husband (and friendly dog) were very helpful and pleasant.

The Suite had private access and was above their garage in their beautiful home (everything seemed brand new and perfectly fresh and clean) Though not really a bed-breakfast, some breakfast snacks were conveniently provided in a little fridge - fruit/granola yogurt/toasts/croissants/coffee/tea/biscuits/etc.. and there was even a microwave and toaster.

Right on the property was a beautiful fresh water lake and they had kayaks and a canoe (plus life jackets) and outdoor furniture for our use. Really, really nice.

There weren't any establishments near by/within walking distance (I think you'd have to have a car or at least a bike) - the town of mashpee (has this cute little mall/commons area) is a short drive away. The place was perfect to use as a base to explore the Cape. We'd wake up in the morning, play on the lake and then took our bikes all over the cape for the rest of the day.
There is an airforce base near the property and during the day, while on the lake you could watch (and hear) all the cool planes and helicoptors fly overhead (but at night time it perfectly quiet).

Overall, we were very happy with our stay and would recommend this place.

I had forgotten my sweater in the room, and barbara even sent it to my home right away!

  • Liked — My cat was warmly welcomed
  • Disliked — Quite pricey.. but it seemed to be on par with the going rates at The Cape at high season
