In my quest for great Italian food (Naples spoiled me!) I had high hopes when Cibo Matto came to town. I'm a believer in eating food 'as close to its source' as possible, so the fact that they grow a lot of their own produce and herbs was a big draw for me (I've seen their garden and it's impressive). So I was confounded by the chewy (not in a good way) eggplant in the roasted eggplant sandwich I ordered. It was as though they'd used the 'end piece' for lack of a better way to explain it. Yuck.
But turning to the herb encrusted goat cheese salad, I was delighted. It was a great combination of textures and flavors with fresh greens and creamy goat cheese. Their own baked bread was a great side, with just the right crunch in the crust and chew in the bread. I'm writing off the eggplant as a fluke and saying the pluses outweigh the minuses here.
