“Excellant Food - Friendly Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

Formosa Taipei is a small take out restaurant in Lexington right outside of Waltham and not to far from Lexington Center. The food is excellant. We love the Lamb in Two Ways and the Mango Chicken. There are a few tables, if you want to stay for your meal. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. In addition to the 'Chinese food' favorites, there is also what they call 'Authentic Traditional Chinese / Taiwanese Refreshments'. Some are for the more adventurous. These are generally smaller portions, so good for tasting. Check out the web site for coupons.

“Friday Night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

What a great little takeout place. We ordered 6 different meals and each was very well done. The dumplings were delicious. No real place to eat in - but take out quality was very good.

“Great Take Out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

I love this place. I have tried almost everything on their menu. My personal favorites are:

The mushroom hot pot, a big bowl of mushroom soup featuring 4 or 5 different types of mushrooms in a delicious mushroom broth. The soup has these wonderful thin noodle bundles that are tied into a knot that provides a range of textures. I usually ask them to hold the transparent mung bean noodles as they often add too many of these for my taste.

The spicy flounder is pan fried flounder in hot chilli oil is very addictive.

Their steamed shrimp dim sum style dumplings are also excellent.

“Authentic Taiwanese food - portions are small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2011

Since I work nearby, this place is convenient. The food is very good and the luncheon specials are worth it. Otherwise ordering any other time, the portions are small and pricey compared to other authentic Taiwanese restaurants but none are close by.

There is really no place to sit and eat here. Parking to pick up your food could be tricky during rush hour.

“Best Taiwanese/Chinese food in the Lexington area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2011

Most of the Taiwanese classics, like beef noodle soup, cuttle fish noodle soup, bah-won (steamed rice flour outside stuffed with pork), fried pork chop rice, etc., are the most authentic you're going to find in Lexington/Waltham. That said, the flavors could be better and the meat is sometimes a bit on the fattier side, portions could be better for the prices, which are high for Chinese food but just right to compete in the area. The boba milk tea is good. Again, if you have time to go to Chinatown or to Shangrila in Belmont, don't bother with this place. But for a quick delicious lunch in the area, this is the place to go.
