My husband and I stayed here at the end of June. The hotel is quite new so everything still looks great and there is not a lot of wear and tear of the hotel yet. Overall, this hotel was very middle of the road:
The Good: Great atmosphere. Check in was easy and we were asked if we would like a list of restaurants in the area and a list for downtown Boston - we took both. Room was quite spacious and we liked the decor. The full kitchen (microwave, dishwasher, cook top, full fridge) was great to make some snacks during our stay and have everything be cold. The bathroom was big and we absolutely loved the shower. This is a green hotel and we really appreciated the effort to conserve energy - eco friendly products, recycling bins, energy star appliances. Free internet in rooms. The free breakfast was good and there was a decent selection. Pool, fitness center, and outdoor patio areas looked nice. Great park area for bike riding, hiking, or walking just outside of the parking lot.
The so-so: Location was not bad to visit Boston for the price, free parking, free breakfast, and free internet. You had to drive to all restaurants - some were only 5-10 minutes away. No room service, only a self serve pantry (some items were expensive, but some were reasonably priced).
The Bad: Our first morning there, one of the light fixtures under the kitchen cabinets started smoking and burned a hole through the bottom of the cabinet. (If the light was left on after we left, I am pretty sure it could have started a fire). I immediately turned off the light and called the front desk. They said they would send an engineer up to the room. 15-20 minutes later, he actually showed up! Having a whole room fill with smoke because of a faulty light fixture in a hotel is urgent to me. I would think they would want to make sure that their guests are safe and to see if they need assistance. However, the engineer was very polite and very professional. He shared that his has happened more than once, but never to this extent. It did not seem that the front desk gave him the impression that this was an urgent matter - he seemed quite upset that this happened as he was inspecting the damage in our room. He said he was going to call the manufacturer immediately. The front desk called to see if the engineer was there, but never offered to change our room. All we got was a "I'm sorry this happened to you." I had to call down and tell them (not ask) that we were changing rooms due to this being a safety hazard - and they agreed. Although, once again, just an "I'm sorry" and no upgrade or compensation. (At this point we were well behind on our schedule and I was not in the mood to argue). I also told them that they should be telling all guests to make sure that the lights are off before they leave the room. We felt that this matter was not handled appropriately by the staff.
