“Some may really like, I'm starting to Dislike”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2009

I have stayed at this property 4 times now and probably will make this my last visit. There are many things to like about the Element. They serve a wonderful free breakfast and create a real sense of community in the lobby. Hotel rooms have an HDTV, big couch and full kitchen. The hotel practices many green principles, so its nice to see the environment being cared for in an operation that consumes resources.
Despite the likes, I really come to a hotel to sleep. The hallways are very loud and on both nights, I was awoken by people talking in the hallways and doors closing. Soundproofing doesn't exist. The climate control makes an awful clicking sound as it comes on and the vent pushing air sounds like an airplane. It blasts freezing cold air until it kicks off the thermostat. Then it makes a clicking sound to turn off. This occurs all day, all night. Lastly, the shade the covers the windows allows alot of light in. I keep forgetting all these drawbacks when I stay here, so perhaps writing a review will share this experience to other travelers and serves as a reminder for the next time I stay here.

First time at the Element and we booked online with AAA rate. We decided on the suite for $137 dollars++. Breakfast comes with it.

1) Lobby - 5/5: Wide, spacious, spa like. The aloft next door is more trendy and loud. The Element lobby is like a sanctuary after a long day. The color is mostly white. As you enter, the receptionist is to the left, the dining area to the right and there are a lot of sitting areas. The kids have a place where they play wii and to the back of it are the computers which you can use for free. They have an area behind the receptionist to buy snacks, microwaveables, sandwiches and sodas.

2) Room - 5/5 The bedroom is divided off from the living room since it is a suite. The bed is comfortable, the attention to details is amazing, and the closets have green colored hangers to go with the green theme. We had a problem with the a/c but they fixed it right away. There are big windows. The bathrooms are spacious, modern with large showerheads. They had the shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispenser attached to the wall so we did not have to ask for extra shampoo. No bathrobes or slippers but we did not care about that. Hair dryer is not attached! There is a corner sofa, working desk and comfy task chair in the living room. Even their surge protectors look great. They had the square ottomans for added seating. The rug was easy to stumble on and the corners of the furniture were sharp. For their do not disturb sign, they use magnets.

3) Kitchen 5/5 - Stainless steel appliances, full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, utensils, plates. There is a small dining table conveniently tucked in below some cabinets. Green theme with environmentally friendly dishwashing fluids, paper towels. Nice looking tiles in the kitchen.

4) Service 5/5 - excellent throughout. There is no restaurant onsite and a car is needed to go places. Their breakfast is convenient since they include breakfast sandwiches (spinach wraps among other things).

5) Amenities 3/5 - Pool and gym, free use of computers, free breakfast, nice snack bar with healthy choices. Wii for kids. No restaurant on site but you can go to aloft for drinks.

Overall, excellent value and spa like experience. I would highly recommend the suite for extended stays. It was great value for what they offer.

Pros: price, modern design,convenient location
Cons: Need a car

Recommend checking downtown Lexington.

Went to Boston for the first time to see the Sox play and watch the Boston Marathon. The Element is obviously outside the city, but the value was incredible. Very clean, safe hotel. It was modern and trendy, but very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. Had a little trouble arranging transportation to and from the Alewife station to get into Boston, but a Mr. York, the general manager, made sure we were taken care of. Great guy!

Our family of 5 stayed for one night in two rooms while visiting friends in the area. Pool was fun, but small. Black bottom was cool. Rooms are well equiped, on the small side, sleek, modern, with that wonderful heavenly bed. On the downside, the furniture has sharp edges that we experiences and as someone else also pointed out, air conditioning was problematic. Blew air cold and smelly (like smoke) at night, but we were able to adjust the flow. Bathroom's coolest feature is the enormous modern shower head and lots of cool products like shampoo dispensers. On the downside, the halls were noisy and you can hear noise in rooms and between the halls. Breakfast was superb! Especially, the egg white, cheese, and spinach whole wheat burrito and fruit smoothies and egg, bacon, cheese muffin. Exceeded our expectations! Lots of variety, served downstairs in a modern lobby. On the downside, they kept running out of silverwear, plates, cups. Need to hire more help downstairs. While two of us checked e-mail, our son played the Wii with another boy, and my husband and I drinked coffee all in the open air lobby! Overall, it is a great value for the price! We will seek out the Westin Element brand another time.

T he element and aloft hotels, which sit across from each other on a hill adjacent to I-95 in Lexington, MA are prototypes of two new Starwood brand hotels. The aloft is associated with Starwood's edgy W brand, the element with Starwood's more traditional Westin brand. But the Element is anything but traditional. Walking into the naturally lit lobby, I was reminded of my visits to the Museum of Mondern Art's restaurant in New York. Clean modern lines , slightly minimalist furniture and a monochomatic pallette greet you. And if you have noticed the gray and white exterior of the building, you won't be surprised that everything in the hotel, lobbies and rooms are in shades of gray, punctuated only occassionally by bits of grass green. The element is a "green" hotel, as evidenced by the 'Hybrid Only" parking spots. All of this presents a soothing, somewhat upscale environment and a wonderful alternative to the other small hotel chains, like Courtyard and Hilton Garden. My wife and I and our 14 yr. old spent four nights here and while our son cast an envious eye ttowards the more frenetic and jazzy aloft across the way, my wife and I were thrilled by the sophisticated style of this hotel. A 2 queen bedded studio was spacious, ,containing a full modern galley kitchen, a desk and loveseat, a nice size flat screen TV and DVD player and a plug in for free wireless. The beds were oversized real queens and the bathroom was huge, with a terrific large rainwater shower. For more privacy from you kids, try a one bedroom suite, with a king bedded private bedroom, and even larger kitchen with a cleverly hidden dining table, a loveseat and sofabed and 2 TV's. You can attach this to a regular king, which has a smaller kitchen but all the other amenities. Smaller bathrooms in these but the same oversized shower. Hotel amenities are very good= nice workout room, glass enclosed heated saltwater pool, WII on the lobby tv with many games, terrific free use of upsscale bicycles, and an enhanced continental breakfast-also on weeknights, wine and hor-doevers in the lobby. Check-in was easy, staff very friendly and helpful and the beds are very comfy. And, did I forget, the "element' fragrance'' that hits you upon entering.

ONLY DOWNSIDE: This hotel is better for touring the hisoric sights of LEXINGTON AND cONCORD or visiting your kids at Brandeis than for touring Boston.

Staff was very charming and helpfull. Check-in was easy and fast. Room is very nice and well thinked except of the carpet that rolls back up and you can trip over it. Ventilation is directly pointed on the bed which can be a bit annoing. bed very very confortable and room very well equipped. Had a great three night stay and first experience of an "element" hotel in Lexington. Service at check in and after was friendly and helpful, good breakfast, and great room amenities...full kitchen, walk-in shower, big windows, flat screen TV, two queen beds. The beds here and other Westin - Starwood hotels are the best...the element adds to this with near perfect soundproofing and an eco-friendly air conditioning system. We had perfect sleeps here. Also liked the salt-controlled swimming pool (no chlorine!) over at the sister hotel "aloft" (the pool at the element was closed), and the free super fast wireless internet. The location is not great, next to the freeway and a five minute drive from Lexington town centre, but its convenient for travelling around the greater Boston area. There is a bar over at the aloft but no restaurant or room service.
