“I enjoyed my Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2003

I stayed at the mayflower in july 2003 i really enjoyed my stay there.
I have stayed there in the past the thing i liked the most this time is they renovated the motel with new carpet, curtains, bed spreads. The manger of the front desk was very helpfull when trying to find a nice palce to eat. There rate were very reasonable and i would stay there before i stayed at any of the other independant motels/hotels

There is a reason the rates are so low for this place The rooms are filthy! I fell into the cheap trap figuring it would be an okay place because a site on the web showed a photo of the Mayflower's sign with an AAA logo attached at the bottom of the sign. The AAA logo was not on the sign when we got there. I can understand a little mold in the grout in the tub, but not the mold covering the insides of the windows and windowsills. Everything in the room was dusty and our "non-smoking" room smelled like stale cigarette smoke. Since we arrived late and didn't have time to find another place. We stayed for one night. (We had made reservations for 3 nights) Big mistake, I have bad allergies and that morning I was a mess. My husband was totally disgusted too. The chairs apholstery had stains on them my husband pointed out some that looked like blood. We were both afraid to walk barefoot on the rug god only knows if there was mold in that too it sure smelled like it. Our feet stuck to the bathroom floor it was so dirty! Thank God it was warm enough so that the heat didn't have to go on, because the radiators were covered (and I mean covered!) with dirt, dust and grime. You could see that they never vacuum under things or moved things to vacuum. The carpet had a grey ring around it along the walls where the radiators are. I went to the office in the morning and told the manager we were checking out and that I would like a refund. At first he would not agree to it. I explained to him that I could not stay in the room because of the dust and mold. He was incredulous and said that no ever complained before. I said that I could take run-down and or old accomdations , but not dirty ones. I told him that he could do what he wanted, but I would stop payment on my credit card. He wanted to give me credit for the 2 nights and said I could give them to friends if I wanted. I wouldn't do that to my worst enemy! Finally, he said he would refund my money, but he needed $20.00 extra for the 2 other nights I reserger, I reluctantly agreed to this. This place rents out rooms by the week. There were only 2 other rooms rented while were were there and they seemed to be occupied by people in some type of transition. They were living there. It's obvious that the owner's are just squeezing what they can out of the place. It is totally rundown. They don't even bother fixing their own sign it's not lit at night so what does that tell ya? So what have I learned from this?: 1. If the rates are cheap it may not be just because the place is rundown and old 2. If you're going to make reservations to some place you've never been before, don't stay at cheap place 2. Don't believe what you find on websites. Even if it looks like they are AAA approved they may not be. Call AAA to be sure. 3. A place may say they have a swimming pool, but that doesn't mean anyone can swim in it. This one looked like it hadn't been used for a decade!
