“Do you think they would allow us to move in?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

Words simply cannot explain the experience of staying at Blantyre! Yes, I know it is expensive but it is so worth it. The house and the grounds are beautiful and there is just an atmosphere of quiet calm. This is a place to come to and relax - read on the covered porch, sit in one of the public rooms and have a drink before dinner and have your desert and coffee in the music room.

We stayed in the blue room which was just beautiful with a nice view of the back garden. The room was spotless. Everything is spotless here and in tip top shape. Unlike other "luxury" properties you don't any scuffed walls or things that need to be fixed.

This all being said what separates Blantyre from other properties is the level of friendly, professional, fully engaged service. It is very clear that each person enjoys working there and they not only want you to be happy but they are very committed to the vision of Blantyre. Each person is very professional but, at the same time, they are not stiff. While we were there the owner was very present and also fully engaged.

Breakfast is very generous. We had dinner both nights and the food was very good. The second night was my birthday and you would not believe how they set the table! They pay a lot of attention to the details: the note of welcoming, a tray left in your room with cookies and cheese, a departure bag with water and a snack.

I asked to see the corner room and not only were we shown that, we were shown two other rooms. All were beautiful and so unique.

The reason I asked to see the corner room was to make another reservation to come back next month to celebrate my husband's birthday! We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: I think we were happier staying in the main house rather than the carriage house or the other out bu...

The staff makes you feel like they are there just for you- and they are... The food beautifully prepared and served, breakfast and dinner. Our room , the Paterson suite, old world charm and perfectly appointed...so much caring and love permeates the whole inn- the perfect get away, thankyou Ann, and of course 'Luke'!

Today, I had lunch at Blantyre. It was wonderful in every way - the food, the atmosphere, and above all, the service. Pascal was the perfect host. Our experience was as pleasurable as it was because he was so accommodating and gracious. I will definitely be coming back!

My husband surprised me with a trip to the Berkshires this weekend for my birthday. He booked our stay at the Blantyre, and from the moment we drove up the long driveway and entered the house, I knew we were in for an unforgettable experience! The house is absolutely gorgeous and we were lucky enough to be upgraded to the Corner Room. The room was amazing--very spacious, beautifully decorated with a HUGE bathroom that featured not one, but two rain showers (never seen that before!). The staff was super friendly and helpful--we went for a hike up Monument Mountain and they gave us a backpack with snacks, water and sunblock. Our last night there, we wanted to do some star-gazing with our telescope, so they set up chairs and a table out on the vast back lawn for us once it got dark. Breakfast is included in the stay and was very delicious. We had treatments at the spa (the Potting Shed) which were fantastic and spent some time relaxing in the hot tub afterwards and getting some sun by the outdoor pool. This place is truly incredible!

This place is a big comfortable house with staff that makes sure you stay comfortable. We stayed in a room in the main house (the blue room), which probably added to the charm of the stay, since we could simply walk downstairs for drinks or food. The Tudor entry hall had fires burning at both ends all day long. In the evening, a truly exceptional pianist plays a stream of classical and modern pieces on a magnificent, well-tuned Steinway, while you sit around the fireplace there and sip cocktails, select dinner, and wine. Then you are invited into the grand dining room, where a great dinner is brought out with relaxed and friendly service. After that, back to the music room for more music, drinks and coffee.

Since we were there in the winter, we did not get to enjoy the grounds that much, though we were able to trek through the woods on snowshoes and also enjoy a sleigh ride. The tennis courts were flooded for skating, but it was a hair too warm for that - and of course too cold for tennis, which we would have enjoyed. There is a spa and exercise room, which some other guests enjoyed, but we are not into that, so cannot report. The house is filled with books -- both picture books to leaf through and a wide variety of reading material. We returned for another visit so I was able to finish a book I did not get through the first time.

One of the things that made our visit enjoyable was the staff, who were friendly and relaxed, always available and not too intrusive. Luc and Crystel, the two sommeliers, were most helpful. The wine list is impressive, and as is often the case these days, has a lot of famous wines at prices that, quite frankly, reflect their limited supply as much as their intrinsic quality. On the other hand, on the plus side the wine list also has a good number of quite reasonably priced wines that appear to have been carefully selected. The wines by the glass were notably fine. For guests like us who were staying over a number of days and did not want to go through a whole bottle every meal, it was also nice to have the option of an unusually good selection of half bottles of wine.

The food itself was very good. The chef is French and his approach is mainly French, although very much up to date. Soups at lunch were velvety. Dressings were light and delicate. Salads were properly chopped up. Portions were thoughtfully sized, so that you felt full but not overstuffed. Flavors were definite and pronounced, but focused on the intrinsic taste of the raw materials. My one criticism there is that, like most restaurants, vegetable portions were small.

Actions speak more loudly than words: ignore the review and simply note that we returned almost immediately for another visit.

Room Tip: I would opt for a room in the main house, and also for one of the larger rooms.

Even in the cold weather, with many attractions closed, Blantyre is worth a visit. Indeed, it may be better, as one does not feel guilty about preferring to stay on the property. What a beautiful property it is, with vistas of the hills, trails to walk (or in this case snow shoe or cross country ski), tennis courts frozen over for skating. The mansion is grand but warm and welcoming. The accommodations distinctive and delightful. My husband and I plan to stay in every one be it in the main house, the carriage house or one of the cottages. The owner Ann Brown cares about every detail and so does her staff. The restaurant serves delicious classical French food. Only a curmudgeon could find fault.

Room Tip: There really aren't any poor rooms. Obviously, though, the more one pays, the better the room...

Blantyre provides a magical experience that makes you feel like you are home at this beautiful property. The attention to detail is amazing, service spectacular and grounds are impeccable. The winter wonderland they have created is amazing. Between sleigh rides, ice skating and the beautiful property for snowshoeing, it is a wonderful escape in the Berkshires.
