“Average in every way”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Jonathan's Bistro is popular apparently and was highly recommended by many people we asked including the front desk clerks at our hotel. Our experience -- one visit -- was that service was inattentive and food was very average. It took an inordinately long time for a server to come to our table even though there were few customers, he took the orders carelessly, he was not particularly helpful answering questions about the menu, it took a long time for the food to appear and the food was hardly worth the wait. Perhaps we went on a 'bad day' but I would not recommend this restaurant and I would be loathe to go there again when I am in Lenox.

“Best Seafood Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

This restaurant served the best seafood during our trip to New England. The fried scallops were perfection. They were large, plentiful and cooked perfectly. The dinner salad was fine, but the various sides offered were a pleasant surprise after fries and more fries. The coconut cream pie was a delicious end to the meal. The atmosphere was cozy and service efficient. Highly recommend.

“Wonderful service, ok food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

Waiter was a real gem on our first visit. Knew the menu, didn't ever leave us feeling neglected even though he was serving as maitre d and waiting tables inside and out.
Although Jonathan's is esentially located in a strip shopping center on a busy stretch of Route 20, landscaping and careful placement of an awning over the outdoor tables made dining outside pleasant.
Menu was pleasing. They were helpful in making a plain chicken breast for my dog Scout who was dining with me, and also keeping his bowl filled with water.
Mac and cheese appetizer was disappointing. Pasta was perfect, al dente with a nice texture and flavor, But sauce was runny and bland bread crumbs seemed to have been thrown on top dry.
Cajun shrimp salad had perfectly seasoned shrimp and greens were crisp. The balsamic dressing was inconsistent with the Cajun spices on the shrimp so that flavors competed rather than complimented. Cucumbers should have been peeled as peel was very bitter. Shaved onion was overly sharp. Cherry tomatoes were flavorful but only two were included. Salad could have used some additional ingredients for interest.

“Did a takeout - was good, not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

Took sandwiches out. Portion size was good, but nothing special. Tuna was a bit bland, and the chicken also ok.
