“Rookwood Inn-- good, not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2006

The good things about the Rookwood Inn include its proximitly to the restaurants and shops in downtown Lenox, its relatively quiet location off the main street, and the loveliness of an old house with its victorian details intact. However, the Inn just falls short on execution of the little things that could make this a top notch place to stay. For example, the Inn provides instant hot water for tea in a common area. It's a great idea, but the supply of tea cups, along with the herbal tea bags, was insufficient and ran out early on, so there were none available for those of us wanting a cup at bedtime, and we didn't feel comfortable phoning the staff to ask for assitance.
The staff, while very polite, weren't good at getting back to us when we asked a question they couldn't answer on the spot.
We also felt the bedding wasn't quite up to snuff. The sheets didn't fit the extra-deep matress, and kept rolling up on us during the night, the pillows weren't great, and the mattress itself had bit of a "tunnel of love" that kept us rolling toward the center--even when we didn't want to!

Very pretty room, great location, nice grounds, but the place was a little ramshackle--for example the wicker chairs on the porch were unraveling. Although the innkeeper was very helpful with restaurant suggestions before we arrived and was friendly when she checked us in, she was never around the place to chat during breakfast or to offer suggestions for daytrips. If we wanted to talk to the innkeeper or her manager for the day for any reason whatsoever, written rules specified we should call on a house phone--signs said we could not walk into the kitchen to talk to staff and there was no office for guests could walk into. Unfortunately, we never felt that wonderful B and B personal touch that is always so special--like feeling welcomed as a guest, pampered with attention to detail, or valued.

Nice location in Lenox within walking distance to shops/restaurants. Accomodations were nice and clean. Comfortable king bed...but very high off of the floor. Helpful staff. Bathroom small but adequate--not luxurious. Water pressure for the shower was weak. Room A/C noisy (but needed). Breakfast was good but not superior. Afternoon tea was simply tea or lemonade and cookies/brownies. Common rooms good--the screened porch was nice. Overall, a good experience.

This beautiful inn is the answer when looking for quiet and relaxation. The rooms are beautiful and exceptionally clean. The little touches were great - a common area with a full refrigerator to store items you might want to keep cool, ice (with buckets), coffee, tea and all the fixin's and supplies. Many of the rooms have working fireplaces. Breakfast is made to order and tea time always had home-made goodies. The innkeeper and her staff were pleasant and made sure of an enjoyable stay. Since visiting during the off-season (winter), it was great that the inn is located conveniently to shopping and superb restaurants. I recommend visiting The Rookwood for a delightful respite.

My husband and I were looking for a charming victorian inn to stay at in Lenox, MA. I came upon the Rookwood Inn on the internet after searching for a long while. We were warmly welcomed into this beautiful victorian Inn. It was most charming with all its antiques and style. Our room (Bouquet Room) was beautiful, not to mention very romantic. With a fireplace and very comfy bed, it was a perfect weekend getaway. Everyone was so friendly. Amy prepared the most wonderful breakfasts, from spinach quiche to a hot apple crumb cake. In the afternoon, tea was always served with a treat from the kitchen such as chocolate brownies...Delicious!!. Amy was also nice enough to have Lactaid milk available for my husband. The staff were most hospitable also. We got to meet Chris who has worked there for a long while. We enjoyed her cheerfulness and humor. We were truly made to feel at home right away. In summary, our visit for the weekend was perfect and we can't wait to go back. Thank you Amy, Chris and staff for making our weekend getaway a memorable one. Can't wait to come back!!
