“Awesome Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2011

I love all things Vanderbilt and was so excited to finally find a Vanderbilt home where you can actually stay! I was not disappointed. The mansion has a long history and is beautifully restored. I made reservations online with no trouble at all. I specified that I wanted a bathroom in my room since I know lots of B&Bs have shared bathrooms. Elm Court does have some of these rooms, so specify if you want your own bathroom. I cannot express how much I loved this place!! Les was our host & he was great. We talked a lot about the history of the house and toured most of it too. There are tons of places to walk on the grounds & it's all so scenic. It's close to the villages of Lenox, Stockbridge & Lee, so that's convenient. We only stayed one night (mid-week getaway!), had a nice breakfast the next morning & dawdled as long as we possibly could. The rooms are gorgeous & clean. Did I leave anything out? Oh yeah - I want to move in!!!

Room Tip: Tell them what you need when you make reservations. They won't steer you wrong!

Thank you, and everyone, who has taken the time to compliment the estate and share your experiences. This feedback is invaluable; the enthusiasm uplifting!

With great excitement we announce all overnight inn rooms now have their own, en-suite bathrooms! This should take the "guess work" out of future stays. :)

Please visit again, during the winter months, for snowshoeing on the grounds you loved so much! We'll have the snowshoes and cocoa waiting!

With sincere thanks and best,
Sonya

Historical property in the Berkshires. Excelent service and unbelievable location/property. From the General Manager, Les Williams was super helpful and accommodating. At the day of our
departure we all wished we could move in...

Les provided a warm greeting. 90 acre property is beautiful and reconstructed mansion is full of character. Breakfast spread could have been a little better. Our room had a bath outside the room which was an inconvenience. Rooms were big and comfortable. Close and convenient to Tanglewood. Overall stay was great and we witnessed an engagement proposal and wedding over the weekend. We recommend!

Our stay at Elm Court was the highlight of our trip around New England. I was worried before we got there that the grandeur of the place would make it overly formal and intimidating but Les, the manager, is a fantastic host and manages to make the manor feel as warm and inviting as a family home. He went out of his way to make our stay special. The home and grounds are spectacular and it was fascinating to learn about the history of the property and its recent restoration.

Breakfast was continental and delicious - a great spread of fresh breads, yogurts, juices and cereal. Plus some boiled eggs one morning and sausages the next.

Our stay at Elm Court was wonderful and I whole-heartedly recommend it.

We had a warm and friendly greeting by Les. He gave us a great tour of the property which is just amazing and a little bit of history of the renovation and its rescue from its dilapidated state. . He made us feel so welcome that we were invited to feel at home and cook in the fantastic kitchen. So we took up the offer and made ourselves a great meal. The Vanderbilt family probably didn't cook in this kitchen but it was an honor to be able to cook a family meal in this historic mansion. The next night Les pulled out the grill for us which we put out on the lawn and had a great barbecue surrounded by tiki torches and candles which was a really nice touch. This stop on our road trip was our last and our best it was such a great step into history if you like this sort of thing you shouldn't miss a stop here. Its great that this mansion is accessible to all at an affordable price.

My husband and I bid on a two night stay at Elm Court (at a benefit auction). We were lucky enough to have the highest bid. This elegant, extravagant Vanderbilt "cottage" was a beautiful setting for a late summer get-away. Lenox (and neighboring Stockbridge and Great Barrington) are quaint New England towns. Lenox boasts the unparalleled Shakespeare and Company theatre (some of the best Shakespeare productions in New England... and if you don't care for Shakespeare, they always have outstanding modern productions to choose from as well). Elm Court is still owned by the Vanderbilt family, tho the home (106 rooms!) was in disrepair for years (1950s-90s). It's all been renovated and restored. We stayed in the Emily Vanderbilt suite. It had a private balcony overlooking the 90 acre homestead and the Berkshire mountains. Breathtaking! The organic breakfast (included) was delicious and the manager (Les ) couldn't have been more accommodating. Make your reservations now! You won't be disappointed :-)

Driving into the Elm Court estate causes one to become a bit breathless by the grandeur of the estate, grounds and views...entering the front door brings on the exhalation of peace, warmth and comfort of first rate service, in a magnificently restored 100 + room "cottage".
We traveled to the Berkshires for a two night mid-week stay at Elm Court as a family. "Les", the house manager, was a dream with suggestions to area family friendly sites (Norman Rockwell Museum and Town Hall collection, restaurants, shopping, etc!) plus on-site activities to busy little hands and feet without disturbing visiting couples. The home has a playroom complete with air hockey table, ping pong table, games and even fitness machines in the upper floors, which we utilized during a passing rain. The grounds are amazing and immaculate, offering a large area to run and explore or simply sit, relax and reflect. One evening, my husband listened to the live music at the not-so-distant Tanglewood AND witnessed a shooting star whilst relaxing on the grounds!
The rooms are incredibly spacious, well appointed and flawlessly restored. We slept like a dream, sleeping well into the 9 o'clock hour each day, something we have not done in YEARS! The organic breakfasts each morning are simple, yet ample: fresh baked breads, butter and jams, fresh fruit and yogurts, granola and cereals, juices, coffee and teas. Every member of the staff we encountered was genuinely professional, personable and friendly, but also respectful to each guests' need to relax, unwind, renew and recharge in this wonderfully restored estate home. Thank you, Elm Court, for restoring this masterpiece Vanderbilt-Sloane estate, and for sharing your home with us!
