“Our second visit! Always a treat.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

If you like modern art and architecture, particularly Cubism, you will absolutely love this place. This would also be a good place for Frank Lloyd Wright fans, even though he had nothing to do with it. I feel like Wright's principles influenced this place (simplicity, no clutter, ample views of the outdoors, furnishings that harmonize well with the house, etc.).
But even if you're not so sure about modern art & arch., you'll probably like the F-M House anyway! It's so sunny, airy, bright, sleek and clean, sort of Art Deco-y. The grounds are nice, too. There are fascinating artistic details in the house everywhere you look (even down to the doorknobs, hinges, andirons), and the guides are excellent. The Frelinghuysen-Morrises had a wonderful combination of taste, artistic talent and MONEY. If you're familiar with the Gropius House in Lincoln, MA, the F-M House will probably remind you of it.
FYI, if standing for an hour or so is very hard for you, this tour may be a bit iffy. There are not a lot of places to sit in the house without your having to miss some aspects of the tour -- and there's a short flight of stairs to climb.
A final note: be aware that the F-M house is only open for a small part of the year. If you're in the Berkshires when it's open - GO!

“Fascinating and wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

We almost passed up this tour after a busy weekend of activities, but we are so glad that we chose to visit -- we loved it! Frelinghuysen and Morris are significant for their important work in establishing modern art in America. Though the art collection on the walls, you will learn about the influences on F & M's work and their development as artists. An excellent video explains their importance in the art world. But the design of their home really makes them come alive as people, fascinating people. Even if you're not a modern art fan, F & M's lives make an interesting story, and the house is a work of art itself. Thanks, Drew, for a great tour!

“Great tour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

Very interesting and informative tour of house and also info on modernist art. Highly recommend; but note, there is a bit of a walk through beautiful woods, can be golf carted if necessary.

“Unique house museum dedicated to artistic couple”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

This is a lesser known museum in a Bauhaus style home and studio of an artistic couple who summered in the area. It has great period details including lots of the couple's art and other paintings they owned by prominent artists.

“Fabulous Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

This house and studio are a very different look at a couple of artists of the Bauhaus school. The guides are very articulate and the tour is quite fascinating. It is really up close and personal and you feel as if the artists are almost with you. Fabulous!
