Description: Dining is a very special event at Blantyre, Relais & Châteaux. Late every afternoon, the Main House undergoes a lovely transformation as we prepare for the delightful dining experience to come that evening. Linens are brought out, tables are set with sterling silver, fine china, crystal, and fresh flowers. Beautiful music fills the air and candles are lit. Under the knowing eye of Chef Arnaud Cotar, the kitchen is a hive of activity as the finest ingredients are used to create a memorable, outstanding dining experience. When you arrive, you can enjoy a pre-dinner glass of Champagne and canapés on the Covered Terrace or in the Main Hall, or sample one of our rich red wines in the Music Room. When your first course is ready our host will escort you to the dining room where your delicious dinner begins. Enjoy a glass of wine from our Wine Cellar, the recipient of the 2011 Grand Award Wine Spectator. Should your evening plans include a Friday or Saturday performance at Tanglewood or Jacob's Pillow, you may wish to postpone dessert. Upon your return, coffee, an assortment of cheeses and a beautifully prepared dessert buffet is served in the Music Room. In keeping with our house tradition, we require gentlemen to wear a jacket and tie. We also offer 24-hour room service.

“Consistently Excellent Food and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2014

Food is excellent, creatively prepared, fresh and interesting. There is a nice variety of dishes. Great pastry chef also. Main dining room setting is very formal and men must wear a coat. Other areas elegantly casual garden formal. One of the best wine lists around. Service flawless, timely and friendly.

Took my team to Blantyre yesterday for lunch. The service impeccable, the food beautiful presentation and flavors were amazing! The staff was so friendly and warm, ensuring my team and I had an enjoyable experience.... The even gave my team a tour of their amazing wine cellar! I am so grateful for all they have done for us... would highly recommend to my closest foodie friends! Kudos to you!!!!

“Wonderful venue, excellent service, good food - but not an extraordinary dinner.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

Two couples sharing a birthday celebration had dinner at Blantyre on a Sunday evening. 6:15 pm reservation. One of the couples had been several times before and had stayed.

We were offered options for cocktails: drawing room, music room or patio. We chose the patio because it was a beautiful evening. Also, there were strongly scented lily's in the drawing room. Beautiful but appetite killers. Fortunately none of those lilys were int he dining room arrangement.

Great view of the grounds from the pattio. Deer, chipmunks and blue birds in site. Beautifully landscaped. Croquet grounds in view but no one playing. One may play as a dinner guest but must wear "all white". We were not prepared but it would have been lovely.

Drinks and small canapes quickly served in beautiful crystal. Drinks $20 each. Well prepared and good sized.

We were seated in the main dining room off the drawing room. Beautifully set tables, each with different crystal. Very traditional and lovely set up with lovely and large flower arrangements on each table -- but they were not too tall to see over.

One couple had a 3 course menu with paired wines. Unfortunately one of the choices selected by the sommelier was a Reisling and had we know we would have requested another selection or passed. Far too sweet for our tastes. The second couple had a four course dinner with two appetizer selections. Both couples had entre and dessert. We dined using a gift certfificate ... our friends ordered directly and paid personally. Hard to know what each cost because I didn't see the menu, but their bill was $452 for their 2 four-course dinners and 8 drinks (they paid for ours). Ours was about $400. Pretty pricey.

Appetizer of Fois Gras was good but incredibly small. A personal favorite, it was a slice of fois gras that was an inch wide by 3 inches long by 1/4 inch thick. It cried for "more". Can't remember the others. One had scallops.. cannot recall all the other choices. both couples had Chateaux Briand. Perfectly prepared and an ample portion. Vegetables included were a small thin slice of grilled summer squash, small portion of chard and one (very salty) potato rosti. We all felt the vegetables were skimpy and not interesting. Desserts varied with chocolate bombe, pistachio cherry tart, ice cream and something else (I've forgotten). All nice, moderate portions.

We retreated to the music room where a pianist played lovely music. A final drink and we were off.

The setting is lovely, although heavy with turn of the century furnishings and fabrics. The dress code has been relaxed (finally) to permit jackets with collared shirts. No ties required. We checked in advance. We all agree it is time to update that standard of dress to the present realities.

Not sure I would go back due to the price -- but the overhead of the facility, staff and grounds probably requires it. it was nice to receive it as a gift. But if you are paying for it yourself, be prepared. In comparing it to the Glenmere Mansion in Chester NY, Glenmere, also a Relais & Chateaux, is less "dark" with larger portions and a slightly less formal atmosphere. We have been to many Relais in Europe and the USA over the years. This is on a par with those venues.

“Eating in Downtown Abbey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

This is not just a meal: it is an experience!!! As you pull up the long driveway (through gates marked "private"), the valet/butler is waiting for you at the front door of Blantyre. He escorts you into the building where you are warmly welcomed by various staff members, asked to pick a room to sit in to have cocktails and a few appetizers. After cocktails, we were taken to a private dining room as my friends were celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary and the staff set us up in a special room. The room was surrounded by windows which let in a cool breeze and the scent of the fragrant gardens outdoors. The floral centerpiece on the table was gorgeous: white roses, white lilacs, white hydrangeas. We were told Blantyre has its own florist who creates these centerpieces every day.
The meal was excellent: from the cold cucumber dill salmon soup to the grey sole, to an incredible dessert made with a splash of Jameson's whiskey over homemade ice cream: magnificent!!
After dessert, we were shown to the Music Room where a piano played performed as we were served cappuccino's and cookies. We wandered onto the patio where delicious gold foil wrapped chocolates were piled on a plate.
The grounds are beautiful, the service professional and warm. We had a wonderful time. The price fixed dinner is $125 per person and our bill came to over $750 for four people with drinks and a $67 bottle of wine. Well worth it. We will return.

“Great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

We were met at the door, and welcomed in by a very attentive staff. We were a party of four, and were early for lunch, as we were going to Tanglewood, and wanted to check into the hotel, get ready, etc.
Staying here was pricey to say the least, so lunch was the next best thing for this trip. Our waiter was a charming gentleman from Paris, as was the chef, who came out after our meal. We chose the Chef's surprise meal, and it was a pleasant surprise. Foie gras, caviar, lobster, duck breast, sorrel mushrooms, and lots more that I can't remember, or perhaps spell! I'm not big on rich food, so I was glad we had this for lunch. We had our coffee on the terrace, and enjoyed the view. The building is amazing. I'd highly recommend saving your pennies, and having a meal here.
