“Historic and Informative!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

This was a lovely place, tour was great! The beautiful dolls with the gorgeous dresses on is amazing! The upstairs was closed, so a little disappointed about that! The grounds are lovely, if you park at entrance, a long walk up to house, so drive up the hill if you cannot walk far, it is much easier!

“Fabulous Tour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

Due to some town ordinances the upstairs was closed for tours - - too bad. But it just means I'll need to go back. We were the only two on the tour and our guide was so knowledgeable about the home - you could tell she had done her homework and loved this house. Was one of the best house tours I've ever been on.

“Museum of the Gilded Age”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

After hearing high praise of this place, found it very disappointing. The tour is flat and dull. Guide spoke in a monotone. Even the dolls were dull. Skp it and go to the Frelinghuysen House instead.

“"Venture Forth to Ventfort"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

Don't miss Ventfort Hall, an estate of the gilded age with some astonishing diverse ties to the financier JP Morgan..... Robert Gould Shaw, leader of the "gloried" Massachusetts 54th Regiment of Civil War Fame..... Japanese geisha.....the film "The Cider House Rules".....John Burbidge, designer for the famous bridal house "Priscilla of Boston..... Amazing, right? These links were uniquely forged and all will be explained at the gorgeous estate of Ventfort Hall, in Lenox, MA in the bucolic Berkshire Mountains, an historic corner of Massachusetts.
This mansion has been gloriously and lovingly restored (although it will always be a work in progress) with hard working, informative docents relating its fascinating history, including its modern involvement in the filming of the hit movie "The Cider House Rules."
But the true treasure here is the doll collection titled "Les Petites Dames de Mode". Totally designed and created by John Burbidge, the bridal designer for the famed salon, "Priscilla of Boston. " This gathering of some 40 dolls, all 29 Inches high, exquisitely detailed and dressed in period Gilded and Victorian age costumes - down to the last earring - is NOT TO BE MISSED! This is a gem of a find on this tour, they save the best till last! There is a gift shop also as you will definitely want more information on this very special doll collection as well as the history and restoration of the house itself.
Ventfort Hall is at 401 Walker Street in Lenox, be alert for the sign, it comes up quickly.

“Oh to be rich and fabulous”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

It's hard to imagine paying $900K to build a house....today. Even harder to imagine paying it more than 100 years ago! It's also hard to imagine this space as it was found a few years ago - before restoration. Who could let a jewel like this go that far? they've done a beautiful job restoring the house. Well worth the price of admission.
