“Never know who you might see in The Bershires!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

The Mount (Edith Wharton's estate) is right next door to Seven Hills. Our friends ran into Laura Bush over there. She is on their board and was visiting, so she let them take a photo with her.....made their day.

“Fascinating woman, beautiful property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

Edith Wharton was such a competent and talented woman. Her family controlled her finances and tried to discourage her writing, and her love life was disappointing, but with perseverance, she grew into a prolific author and a leader. This house is very important to her story because of her role in designing the estate. You will understand her much better after you have visited The Mount. Yes, the furnishings aren't original, but I enjoyed the ability to sit down in her living room and enjoy the surroundings. For lovers of literature and American history, this is a great place to visit.

“Great tour and gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We had a group of friends take the docent tour of the house and it was well worth the trip. Edith Wharton was not only a great writer but she also designed the house and gardens on the property. The shame is that most of the furnishings are not original as she took all the furniture with her when she moved to France. The museum curators did furnish the house according to the time period as best as they could and did a fabulous job. Be sure to go on a nice day as the walk in gardens is not to be missed. The stable building is currently being renovated and not open to the public.

“Edith's Wharton's Gardens and Home in the Berkshires”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

During Edith Wharton's amazingly prolific life, The Mount was the creation she held dearest to her heart, and was the place where she demonstrated her theories about the way to properly
design a home and garden (assuming, of course, that one had unlimited funds!).
Get there at 10AM, before the tour bus crowds descend.

“Edith Wharton's summer home is lovely”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

I have not been there since it was the site of Shakespeare & Company. No doubt it has been renovated further in honor of the extraordinary Ms. Wharton! A beautiful property with a special past.
