“Historic Charm and Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

A long weekend at this historic B&B was inspirational and relaxing. The area is steeped in history and artistic energy. Our stay was enhanced by the beautiful porch where we enjoyed our breakfasts of local produce, eggs and cheese prepared by Joanne our innkeeper. She masterfully used these ingredients to make a variety of dishes including quiche, blueberry pancakes, Mexican frittata, coffee cakes and cobblers. The meals were complemented by lovely fresh fruit cups, juice and coffee or your choice of teas. Cool breezes, lush hanging planters and a very polite dog added to the ambiance. Our suite was clean and furnished with beautiful antiques, quilts and throw rugs. The floor boards were restored to their natural beauty much to our delight. Our innkeeper's husband, Bruce, is an accomplished carpenter who obviously keeps the house in tip top shape. This charming old home looks beautiful for her age and shines from the bounty of love she is receiving with this gracious couple in charge of operations. We highly recommend that you visit!

The Jonathan Foote 1778 House is a beautifully restored and maintained treasure! We were delighted by our stay. Our room was charming and spacious. The inn is immaculately clean. JoAnn and Bruce are delightful hosts - friendly and knowledgable. Breakfasts were so tasty and the cookies a delicious treat. We look forward to a return visit!

We managed to get a room for an October weekend and were very surprised as we called about a week before we were planning to go. They had a cancellation, so it worked out. When we arrived we were greeted by Joann. She and her husband Bruce are the innkeepers and were very warm and friendly.

You enter the house in the living room/common area which is very large and has two seating areas. One by the bookcase and another in front of the very large fireplace. We also got to meet their beautiful Golden Retriever who is very sweet and well-behaved. The dining area is off the living room. The house is definitely old, but has a lot of charm and character that Bruce, who handles the upkeep, does a good job of maintaining. The fireplace was amazing and one night we sat in front of it for a couple hours just enjoying it. Joann also gave us a log to burn in our room which was so attentive and thoughtful.

We signed in and Joann took us to our room, the Rose Room which is located on the first floor. The room had ample space with a Queen bed, fireplace with seating area, and an armoire for clothes. The bathroom was small with just a standup shower, sink and toilet. The inn does provide some lovely toiletry items such as shamppo, moisturizer, etc. A very nice and homey touch.

The downside of this room and it's a pretty big one, is that it adjoins with the China Blue Room. Now, this can be great if you are traveling with friends or family, but if the people next door are strangers be aware that you can hear e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. And I do mean everything. From the bathroom activities to the snoring...we heard our neighbors loud and clear. In fact, on our second night, they were watching the Simpsons and we heard each and every episode and even had a few laughs, although we didn't sleep until they turned the TV off. I took off a star for this because I don't want to hear people I don't know snoring, blowing their nose, going to the bathroom, etc. (you get the picture) and then have to eat breakfast with them. It's just plain awkward and weird. That being said we would still stay here again, but in one of the upstairs rooms.

For breakfast on the first day, Joann served cut pineapple and a sour cream coffee cake which was delicious. The breakfast entree fell short though. It was one baked egg with melted cheese and toast triangles for dipping. It wasn't really flavorful and we were hungry a little while after we ate. On the second day, Joann served cut up melon, two types of bread, and a delicious egg fritatta with spinach and feta. My husband really liked it.

In terms of location, the inn is located near the outlets and there is no shortage of hiking locales. We hiked Monument Mountain which had some beautiful vistas and we also drove up to Mount Greylock which was beautiful and a must-see if you are planning a trip to the area. It was a clear day and you could see Mt. Monadnock in Jaffrey, NH in the distance. The inn is also a short drive to Stockbridge, Lenox, and Great Barrington. We ate at two restaurants near the inn, Chez Nous and Morgan House Inn and both were delicious. Morgan House is more casual, Chez Nous is more elegant. I also got a mani/pedi at a nail salon in the downtown and they did a nice job. I am certain we will go back to the area and when we do we will most likely stay at the JF 1778 House.

Room Tip: While a very lovely room, you may want to avoid the Rose Room because of the noise factor.

My two daughters and I recently stayed in the Jonathan Foote Suite which was perfect for us. The Innkeeper greeted us warmly and showed us to the cookies and coffee in the dining room. The Inn keepers were wonderful and the lovely dog was well behaved- not a jumper. The rooms were comfortable with easy chairs, plenty of light and spotlessly clean! The King bed was comfy while the queen bed was more firm. Our private bathroom had a claw foot tub/shower and pedestal sink. My 20 something daughters enjoyed the quaint feel of the sloping floors and original woodwork and beehive oven in the keeping room. Our room appeared to be in the oldest part of the house. Breakfast consisted of fruit, an egg dish (quiche) and a delicious sweet bread. Juice and Coffee of course. We had a wonderful time, no complaints, and would stay at the Jonathan Foote again if we were in the area.

When attending performances at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, we love staying at the Jonathan Foote 1778 House, which is conveniently located nearby. The innkeepers, Joanne and Bruce, are warm, welcoming and attentive. They make us feel so special each time we arrive. The intimate, charming rooms are beautifully appointed and meticulously clean. And, the house is always quiet and restful.

Joanne is an amazing cook. Her breakfasts each morning (served outdoors when the weather permits) and her homemade cookies (served as afternoon snacks) are simply delicious .

We're looking forward to many more visits!

We stayed at Jonathan Foote on the last night of what has been a wonderful tour of New England. It was certainly a very special way to end our trip.
The house itself has so much charm and character, whilst still having all of the amenities that make for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Joanne and Bruce were so welcoming and made us feel like part of the family - even the dog was there to greet with a warm welcome.
Breakfast, cookies and goodies were delicious - a real home from home.
If you're thinking about booking a stay here - stop thinking about it and book it now, you won't regret it!

I traveled with my family in August 2011. We stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful stay at Jonathan Foote 1778 House. They owners were friendly and helpful. The homemade breakfast every morning was delicious! The cookies/ goodies in the evening were just as yummy. The "resident dog", a beautiful golden retriever was friendly but still calm, always wanted to play and get your attention. She added a "home-y" feel to the B and B. I would love to come back and stay here again!
