“Enjoyed the Cape Codder”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2007

We had a great stay, wish we could have stayed longer. The room was as pictured on the hotel's website, very comfortable and clean. Good family resort. We enjoyed the Hearth 'n Kettle restaurant onsite for breakfast and dinner; good variety on the menu; good value. (Same menu items at The Grand Cru Wine Bar cost more.) Friendly and helpful staff. We would stay here again.

  • Liked — Beautiful landscaping; flower gardens. Ample parking close to rooms.
  • Disliked — No elevator to get luggage to second floor.

We stayed at the Cape Codder for 4 nights last week. Our kids, ages 7 and 11 loved the pool. The outdoor grounds were very pretty with beautiful flowers. The restaurant was a bit noisy and overpriced for us for breakfast but Dunkin' Donuts across the street worked out fine. The location was pretty good for us with it being so close to Rte. 6 because we did a lot of exploring. The consierge and all of the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful.

What I didn't like about this hotel was the rooms themselves. We stayed in 2 different rooms while we were there and both of them left something to be desired as far as cleanliness. The first room seemed fine at first, but all night long I wondered why I kept smelling this horrible body odor smell which turned out to be the unclean blanket on my bed. I was very glad when my husband told me he asked to have us moved to a different room to give us access to the courtyard.

However, the second room was just as bad. There was a strange bad odor to the room that I tried very hard not to think about so that I wouldn't get grossed out. The sheets were almost threadbare, with little nubs on them from overuse. Another reviewer said their room was damp and so was ours. It was very weird, the air conditioning was on and the room was cool, but VERY damp. Our bathing suits did not dry at all until we put them outside in the sun.

A few friendly suggestions besides working on the attention to cleanliness: an outdoor pool and, for the price, free breakfast (even if it's just donuts and bagels) would have been great.

  • Liked — The outdoor areas.
  • Disliked — The cleanliness of the bedding and the smell of the rooms.

The Cape Codder is a fantastic hotel for those on a budget! The wave pool is incredible - we don't have children and we still had a blast!! There's something going on all day and every night there to suit all ages - a movie in the courtyard, music on the deck, games, family friendly stuff and adut friendly stuff alike! The room was clean, spacious and ideal for a couple. The Beach Plum Spa located in the hotel was fabulous - a bit pricey but it was worth the indulgence! Having two fine restaurants in the hotel was great too. We had one day of all rain, and were not bored for a minute!

We would (and will) definitely say there again and will recommend it to anyone!

Stayed for a Friday and Saturday night. The lobby and grounds around the hotel are impressive. Beautifully maintained. The staff at the front desk and the staff at the restaurants on site were great.
The rooms however are old, outdated and smelled musty. In our room, the bedspread was not clean, the air conditioning unit was loud and clinky and the wallpaper was starting to peel away from the wall. Pillows not great either. Hallways gloomy.
The other couple we were with had a generator outside their window going all night. They called the front desk and was told the hotel was sold out....not much they could do....credited $75. Money was not the issue. They cut their stay short because they simply couldn't get a good night sleep and we went home tired.
Wish they would update the rooms because everything else is very nice. Until then, I won't go back.

  • Liked — Grounds - landscaping, beautifullly maintained
  • Disliked — The room!

The Cape Codder seemed to be one of the better hotels to take our young children to this summer. We were a bit worried about some of the negative reviews, which happened to be quite accurate. Still, we had a nice little room with a fireplace (mostly there for ornamental reasons...it worked if you asked for a small can of sterno) in the 600's section. We chose this type of room because it included a small fridge. I would advise anyone who is booking to request a room that is far away from the pool, as the smell of chlorine in the hallways was sickening. There were some very distinct odours in the hallways as some other reviewers mentioned...one smelled like wet dog, and the other smelled like mothballs. Our room and hallway had no bad odours. The pool is great for little children, but the wrist strap policy is a bit of an annoyance, and the staff is very strict on that subject. Small children who do not swim very well should not use the two waterslides, as parents cannot wait at the bottom to help them get out. We ate at the Hearth and Kettle restaurant twice, and only because we were given $10 vouchers for lunch/dinner. We only wished that it applied to breakfast. The food is okay, but nothing to write home about. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Our children enjoyed the pool, the nightly bonfire with music and dancing (you can roast marshmallows only if you buy the sticks and bag at the restaurant for $5). There were nightly movies outside for the kids as well. The housekeeping staff were very pleasant. One strange thing was that there was a card in our bathroom which stated that in order to conserve water, we should leave our towels hung up. If they were left on the floor or in the bath, they would be replaced. We thought this was a great way to save the environment, so we hung up our towels, only to find that each day they were replaced with new ones!! Oh well, I guess the thought was there!! The Cape Codder is also very close to shops and other great activities in the Hyannis area.. We strongly reccommend the Pirate Adventure. Our children aged 5 and 7 loved going out on a pirate boat and pretending to be pirates in search of treasure. This activity is geared towards kids aged 4-8. We would definately go back to the Cape Codder. It was a great way to spend our summer holidays.

  • Liked — location, comfortable beds (mattress topper with memory foam), fun pool and clean
  • Disliked — some strange smells in the hallways (not sure if the rooms smelled as bad)

The hotel was very nice, Hearth N Kettle restraunt was convenient for breakfast but expensive ($25 for myself, husband & 3 yr old); there are other restaurants right up the street (Friendly's, Ihop, McDonald's); our room was very damp, the staff had to bring a dehumidifier which improved the issue 100%.
The wave pool was wonderful for our 3 year old, for the older kids there is an indoor tube slide. There is not an outdoor pool. right outside of the wave pool were tables & chairs as well as lounge chairs; there was a sandy area for the kids with lounge chairs.
There is an outdoor bar right behind the lounge chair area which makes it convenient to grab a drink. The grounds were beautiful, beautiful flowers.
There were lots of activities for the older kids (bonfire, outdoor movie at 8:30, game room).
Also, complimentary coffee in the morning at the front desk.

  • Liked — wave pool
  • Disliked — dampness of room
